As some of you may know, when stuff doesn't work for the missus, times get hard. Well, we used to be able to watch dvds on the computer and now we can't. CDs still play, though. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Arch. |

What happens (besides nothing) when you put in a dvd? Do you get an error? What happens if you go to the (My) Computer and manually run them?
If you want some help, please help us to help you by providing more detailed information! |

Sorry for the delay.
When a music cd is inserted a list of media player choices appears, but with a dvd, nothing. It's Windows XP on a seven years old computer.
Thanks,

What program were you using before when you were able to play DVDs? What happened to that software? _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

I don't know. June would use the comp to watch dvds whilst I'd be watching tv. I've checked `All Programs` and can't find any specific player. I am not great at this, as you know. |

Look for any CDs that came with the computer. Maybe there is an applications disk that contains the DVD software. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

Depending on which version of Windows XP, it will natively use either Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center (on Windows Media Center editions). Perhaps autorun has been disabled (which isn't a bad thing).
You can try putting in a DVD, go to My Computer, find the DVD drive and double click on it. If it just opens and shows the folder list, there should be an autorun or startup item that you can use to run the movie.
Let us know how your adventures go... |

I have just tried that now, Chris. Nothing happened.
The CDs that came with the computer were put `somewhere safe` which has now developed into lost. Thanks for your help, lads.

Just install VLC and get it over with.
It's free for scotsmen.

My Kitten stopped working. Can you fix it?

Just tried that, Peter. It doesn't work either.
It's becoming more hassle than it's worth.

Could it be a graphics card issue? _________________ 1977 Sho~Bud D10 ProIII Custom; Sho~Bud SD10 The Professional ; ETS S10 5x5;

For all I know about computers, it could be a Xmas card issue. This what I get when I try VLC:
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd://D '. Check the log for details.
???
Arch.
p.s. `dvd:/ / D : \ when joined together come up with the smiley. I've separated them so you know what it actually says. |
