Well,actually Riverside,close to Pell City.
Looks to be about 15 miles East of B'ham. Doin' a show Fri. & Sat. at a place called "Legends In Motion". Show time: 7:30 pm. I'll be backing "George Strait". Maybe even "Reba".

Ok, Sammy here I is..Looks like a great weekend in Nashville. Not too often they can get Smiley out of town.. But I'll have more to say if I can drive up to Nashburg the next weekend.. Tony Davis and wife will be in town trying to convert the Smileman to drive from the right side of the road Aussie style. Come to think of it Smile uses both sides already. ..OOOOh me and I gave up drinking. Twice yesterday..easiest thing I ever did.Looking forward to giving it up again someday

Okay gang,I'm back from Birmingham,& the score is:
B'ham - 0
Smiley - 1
Looks like I took another town by surprise. (& I didn't even hafta wear my "Smiley" underwear either.)
Seriously,I had a GREAT time. The venue was the "Legends In Motion" dinner theatre, where they book in "copy-cat" acts,e.g. "Elvis","Cher",etc. I backed up "George Strait",done by Ty Taylor. He doesn't really LOOK like George, but he's got the moves & the voice.(& a nice guy,to boot)

Now,Christy Deck, who did "Reba",is another story. First,Christy comes out & does her own show. Then "George" comes out & does his.

***INTERMISSION***

Then,Christy comes out as "Reba". Friends, let me tell ya something. The metamorphosis, from Christy to "Reba",is so AMAZING,you won't believe your eyes. She has the look, the moves, the voice, everything!! I swear,if Reba ever got sick,& couldn't do a show,Christy could "fill" for her & I don't think the general audience would be able to tell the difference! Perhaps, only the staunch Reba fans could. Christy's hair is med. long,& "blondish". When she dons that red wig...."SHAZAM",Billy Batson becomes CAPT. MARVEL!!!

Finally, the band that I worked with, the "Moody Blues" show band, under the leadership of drummer David Fontana,(who just happens to to be the son of Elvis' drummer,D.J.Fontana) was outstanding!! They can go from trad. Country to hard Rock in a heartbeat. After the "main" show,we did a dance set, featuring some Beach Boys,"Doo Wop" music, etc. Chris James,(keyboards) does a "Mick Jagger" that'll stop you in your tracks! People were actually throwing dollar bills on stage. This guy is a show in itself. The other musicians (& I use this in the strongest sense of the word) were Joe Webber on bass,& Terry Fulwider on lead guitar. I didn't get to play much steel on this set,but I sure had fun "padding".
All-in-all,an enjoyable weekend.

Hey Smiley it's good to hear your getting so much work. It sounds like you had a great time. Did you leave any cold beer down there? :-)

Hey, you guys and gals,

I recently obtained a number of recordings where Smiley had backed up several artists -- including Chubby Checker. If you have never heard Smiley play steel and Dobro, you have really missed it. The man is G O O D.
