I have the BIAB with all the 'Real Tracks"
I personally play a non-pedal 8 in C6. G on top.
I'm listening to the real tracks that have steel accompaniment.
The accompaniment is great, that is what I'm trying to learn.
We, at this forum, have great guys sharing melody instruction. Thank you guys!
But, I'm trying to learn background steel.
I think the songs in the BIAB are using tunings probably not C6 and they might be Pedals.

Is this why I can not seem to figure out how those background steels are working?

Thanks
BTW: Any suggestions for learning that background comp stuff?

Hi Gary,

I'm not the worlds foremost expert on BAIB, but I am pretty sure that nearly all of the real tracks steel are indeed E9th Pedal Steel. At least all of them that I've heard.

It is highly unlikely to get all of the E9 Pedal licks, or sounds from a C6 non pedal, or pedal steel.

That being said, don't let that stop you. Continue to listen, use bar slides and slants, keep experimenting, you'll find that there is a lot of music in C6 non pedal.

Good luck
David

Thanks David, it seems I should continue to search as you suggest.
You make it sound as though I will eventually find comping techniques.

I got the Back-up Behind The Singer by Dewitt Scott.
I was hoping to find updates to the tracks #9 and #11, which were released in a defaulted manner. They still have the Steel Guitar playing and the tracks are suppose to have the steel removed. This is a known issue by the company releasing this book and CD because the company has an apology typed on the inside cover of the Book for the error.
Could they include a note in the book to let us know that an updated MP3 was available at a website somewhere??

So, out of the 5 songs for study only 3 have backing tracks instead of 5.
I'm not really mad, just disappointed in the release of a faulty product???

Can Steel Guitar Forum get this rectified??

I believe BIAB now has the notation for most of the steel parts.
