Granted C6 can be confusing Doug
especially for a beginner
the E9 nashville tuning is pretty straightforward for major chords but on C6, one is inclined to get them tetra chords ( 4 notes) from the git
6th,7th, 9th, 11th ,13th, major 7th, minors as well them altered chords are all over C6
if you can, check out Buddy's Basic C6
that's what got me goin' & it served me well

if the chords in those links seem to complicated for you Doug, you should try to break them down to their basics : root, third & fifth
you'll find the basic chord positions in them links
C6 tuning has 2 chords in it : on fret 0 C6 root on strings 3 7 10 & a Fmaj7 w: the root on string 9
