I have a pick up I think is a L705. It reads 17.4 on the meter. I would like to install it into a old professional (Sho Bud) on the E9. The stock p.u. is making more noise than I wish to have. What do ya think i'll end up with. thanks for your help. Dennis

You will probably need a different mounting plate to fit it in your Bud. _________________ Bob |

Thanks Bob. The mounting plate I can handle. It's the tonal change I'm wondering about. What tonal change should I expect? Thanks again, Dennis |

Don't know whether you have the same PU in your guitar, but here's one opinion.
I played a new '74 ShoBud D10 Pro II until '99. It came with the original single coil, tapped PU's. (I used the full position on the taps rather than the thin) Somewhere around '80 I replaced them with 705's.
Bottom line, I liked the original PU's better; to my ears the 705's didn't give as warm and full sound especially on the E9th neck as the originals.
As a side effect, most of the fx pedals I was using changed their personalities in a big way because of the difference in the PU's impedance.
Again, just my opinion. I've read many, many posts by folks who love the 705's. |
