I released my new album (CD) entitled "Steelin' With Friends" at the annual festival of the "Seattle Western Swing Music Society" on August 14, 2005. The musicians I used on the album were friends I have made here in the music-rich Memphis area.
The album consists of six steel guitar instrumentals and six vocals -- two vocals by each of three friends. The two songs sung by Slim Dossey of "Sons Of The Pioneers" and "Smokey Rogers" fame were recorded by Slim with me doing the steel intros and backup in 1966. Listening to those two songs then listening to the other ten songs on the album will prove that I haven't improved one iota in the last 40 years.
I did not use E9 chromatic or C6 on any of the songs. I used my old E 6/9 with six pedals and four knee levers to get full chords with the melody note on top -- something a little diferent for your collection.

Roy, save me a few copies. I want one for myself and the others for our mutual friends here in Gulfport. Glad you are back "home" in Memphis safe and sound. See you and Laurie very soon now.
After the St. Louis show I will be driving Mitsuo to Nashville where he will be doing a session for a project there at Breedens Studio. Then Mitsuo will visit with us on the coast here in Gulfport for a few days. We will give him a big "EXCEL-EBRATION" with some of my music friends here. Hope you can make our next show on Oct. 1st. See you soon.

Got my copy - beautiful! And thank you so much. A friend and fan forever.
I want you to come by the booth in St. Louis and talk about your new CD, recent induction, and whatever else comes up. Bring Laurie around too.
Can't wait to see you two again. I'm hoping all works out well enough that I can make it to the Oct. 1 show in Gulfport. Gotta talk with Bill and see if he'll have me again.
See you in St. Louis! When are you coming in?
Miss Lana

Miss Lana (and anyone else interested):
We will be driving to St. Louis from Memphis -- a relatively short trip. I am scheduled to play a set on L. T. Zinn's Hawaiian show, which will be on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. It will be in one of the large rooms (Jefferson Room?) -- not in the big auditorium. We hope to arrive in time for me to set up prior to 10:00 A.M., but I asked L.T. to put me on a little later in the event of unanticipated delays. Some of the others scheduled for the Hawaiian show are L.T., Bill Stafford, Bobby Black and John Hughey.
Miss Lana, I will be honored to do a live interview from your booth -- and Laurie said "Hi".

Hi Roy, good to see you're up & about!
That E6/9 tuning is a souped up version of the forties & fifties style picking. Wish I could hang with you, maybe set your rig up; however, I'm not worthy to loosen your strings!!!!
This CD is a "masterpiece" that we will enjoy forever....thanks for all the good music you've given us over the years. Many, many blessing on you and yours!!!![This message was edited by Delbert Aldredge on 24 August 2005 at 06:52 PM.] |
