Hermann Lammers Meyer
"Nashville is rough on the living"
Desert Kid / Uptodate (german import)
Europe's king of Texas dance hall music has traveled to San Antonio, Texas and again recorded another wonderful CD. This one, of mostly Texas dance hall music and country sounds, is a sure winner. The CD is comprised of 15 tunes with the incredible steel guitar of the big E, the great Buddy Emmons featured right up front on all of them. The album opens up with a super Texas dance hall sound, penned by Hermann, called Honky Tonk Hearts and then goes on to another Texas dance hall sound, Gram Parsons' Kiss the Children. Then there are two penned by the legendary Willie Nelson's To Make a Long Story Short and I Just Can’t Let You Say Goodbye. Also included is Little Jimmy Dickens’ Cajun styled composition Little Jack Daniel and Shel Silverstein’s country styled Nashville is Rough on the Living, a duet with the great Johnny Bush.

Another duet with Johnny is Johnny’s own Texas dance hall gem, Death Row. Other songs penned by Hermann are the Texas dance hall oriented Home of the Damned, a real pretty duet with Sandra Caroll, titled, Magic in a Song and a swinging Fiddlin’ Man. Hermann also penned the country Too Old for Nothing, and a tribute song to Lefty Frizzell sung along with George Chambers, She Loves Lefty. Other Texas dance hall sounds are Runnin’ Back to You and another duet with Sandra, Puttin’ Tears to a Tune. Another duet with Sandra is the swinging blues sound of Nashville Blues.Besides Hermann's vocals and guitar and Buddy's steel licks you can enjoy Dave Biller playing lead guitar, the great Bobby Flores playing fiddle and Randy Reinhard playing piano.

The drums are played by Jim Loessberg while the bass player heard is Jake Hooker. Also heard is Rolf Sieker playing banjo, George Chambers- acoustic guitar and Bill Green- guitar. Sandra also does backup vocals. This album can be obtained from Desert Kid Records, Drosselweg 15, 26871 Aschendorf, Germany or hermann.l.meyer@freenet.de The cost of the CD is 18,00 Euro in Europe, and $20 for the US, shipping and handling is included

What guitar is that? Looks like a push-pull, but not the Blade. 8 pedals not 9 == and no Pembroke Pickin' Parlor sticker on the front apron below the keyhead.

Just curious.

Also, Hermann, when and where were the sessions?

Great to see E play again. It is a privilege just to hear his musicality. He is musical magic personified.

I believe the video is a couple of years old. If you look carefully it doesn't sync up to the tune that's playing. If you do a youtube search of Hermann, you'll find this footage on other tunes. I think the guitar in the Legrand III (Brown Bart)?

It all sounds great! Too bad about the non-existing synchronization. Very distracting to an otherwise excellent presentation.

I think the clips of Buddy were recorded in 2007 on the Midnight Jamboree at the Ernest Tubb Record Shop in Nashville. The clips showing Buddy were of him playing The Waltz Of The Wind, according to Herman's Myspace bio. They played two songs that night which were The Waltz Of The Wind and They Stole My Steel Guitar(link to video below.) It looks like the video Jelle provided is just a bunch of clips of the various artists put together in one video. Great music!

Right you are, Jack -- I'd forgotten that the 'Barts' had no Legrande stickers on the keyhead end of the apron. He'd sound great with a 2x4 with strings stretched across it.

True. But he'd be picky about his 2x4. Very Happy
