Hello,

I have a ZB D-10 currently with the Day setup and I'd like to change it to an Emmons setup. I have never before done a change of setup.

Could anyone guide me in doing so? Any pictures would greatly help.

thanks,
-vivek

Having once become embroiled in an attempt to simply tune a D-10 that quickly turned into a Rube Goldberg free-for-all, I will offer no specific mechanical advice except to say: heed explicitly anything the ZB experts here have to offer. B. Greg Jones, Billy Knowles, Kevin Hatton, Larry Petree, Larry Chung and Tom Bradshaw are among the Exalted Grand Wazirs of the Mystical and Esoteric Order of ZB.

ZBs can be as tricky as they are beautiful and gorgeous to hear. I predict much of the ensuing advice will be along the lines of (if not verbatim): no matter how mechanically adept you think you are (or are), without specific and extensive experience with ZBs, you're headed down the Rabbithole.

With all due respect to your own talents.

Vivek,
It all depends on your level of mechanical aptitude.

Changing over a ZB is nowhere near as straightforward as changing over a modern steel, it took me six weeks to get my ZB where I was happy with it, wheras my Carter took about an hour to convert from Emmons to Day Very Happy

If you are competent mechanically, you should be able to change the ZB around, but be prepared to spend some time doing it, as it's quite fiddly.

Get some long tweezers, and some long-nosed pliers.

You will also need two thin spanners (1/4" across the flats, I think) to set the turnbuckle connectors on the pull-rods.

Good Luck Shocked

Sounds like a suicide mission to me !
Vivek, let one of the experts do the job or ,as
the guys have said, you'll be down a rabbit hole and greatly disappointed !
They are still the best steels !
Cheers !

Why do you want to change? If you have been used to the Day set up, what do you expect to gain? I started out with Day set up. You will have to re think many things you now take for granted in your playing. I have been thinkng of going back to the Day set up on one of my guitars to see if I would be more comfortable. Tommy White and many other players are happy with the Day set up. Just my thoughts.
