Just wondering if anyone out there is using a Pelican Case for their steel. The concept of wheels is very attractive, especially without it being a flight case. Plus the price point seems pretty good too.

Any thoughts?

Ian,It looks pretty cool the only thing I don't understand is that they want you to turn the guitar over after the legs are removed?

I was wondering that too...on Pelican's website that model was designed for rifles. I'll have to do some measuring, I wonder if the depth of the case is an issue?

The depth should be sufficient for most bodies, I think. A typical steel guitar case is about 7 1/4" outside dim.

The foam insulation on the inside is the thing that must be crafted to fit the guitar as, generally, these cases don't have any blocking. Some just use egg crate type foam on both sides and ends so they can be used as a generic case for various sizes.

I don't know anything about this vendor or whether they are using a firmer foam that would offer more protection for steel guitars ala Sierra's EZZ poly case.

It says that this case is lighter than a conventional case, but the few Pelican cases I've lifted have been heavy. I'd like to hear an exact weight on this one for sure. Pelican has the foam laid out in little blocks inside the their cases, which makes it easy to customize the inside dimensions.
