Too bad that's not May 24th. I'll be up there visiting with my brother in Grantham, Pa.
I used to play in the Sonny Lee band out of York and also the Dewey Reed band out of Wheaton, Md (and we worked Carl Zinn's Club 355 in Frederick - I think Carl is Leonard's brother). |

Hey, Jack---
Small world!! I used to work with Dewey Reed in the early 70's!! Did you know Bob Duley? He gave me my first gig as a steel player....He and Dewey played together for a while....
I played at Zinn's, too...right next to the Monocacy River. It's been gone for years.....Down the street a mile or so was a knife-and-gun club called Top's Place.....it was a sleazy honky tonk then---now it's a swanky restaurant...... I grew up pickin' in those places.....

Curry, I don't think I knew Bob Duley. I used to live in Laurel. I used to play a lot at the Sunday jam show that was broadcast from the Tin Dipper in Beltsville on the Wheaton radio station. Probably in 1970/early 71. I wasn't very good on steel at the time (I just started playing pedal steel when I got a Fender 2000 in Oct 69) but they would let me play anyway.
I worked with Dewey in 71 and then again in 72/73 until I moved to Kansas City, Mo in late 73. Tommy Auldrige and I have been communicating as he too worked with Dewey (and Hugh Fazenbaker on fiddle) and also with another guy I worked with, Oscar Shields. I was the steel on Dewey's recording of "Pass Me By" (and the other side of the record was Hugh doing "Orange Blossom Special").

Jack--
I used to go up to the Dipper to see Ronnie Eyler. What a phenomenal player!! (And a profound influence on my playing) He's going to be at the Jefferson thing, too.........
Anyway, Frank-the owner of the Dipper-used to kick me out (Iwas underage), but I wound up playing on the CSA Jamboree he had on Sundays the last few years.......
Don't know how I missed meeting you--I lived in Wheaton-same neighborhood as Hugh Fazenbaker....I think I had a copy of that 45.....bought my first Emmons at Chuck's in 1972.........

And to unplug your guitar amp, detune your tuner keys, steel your 3' chord, Unhook some of the pedal rods
Smash your picks, slide in a fake fret board,Plug in your effect rack backwards, Cut the 5th string on the E neck
Support is a wonderful thing!!!!

Curry did a fantastic job on his part of the show.
Bob sang a real nice mix of traditional country songs and Curry played everything very good. He did 3 or 4 instrumentals. One was "Cool It"....Nobody has ever played it that good! Just a great show all around....... Tommy........... |

Hi Jeff: No we didn't take any photos this time.
Last time I took my V.H.S. and video taped quite a bunch, but this time it was just too much to fool with. It was real good. Why didn't you come up?

I had a family get together that I was unable to reschedule. I bought my wife a Canon EOS Rebel T2i ... and had a real itch (if I could have made it) to come up and take some photos to post on the web. I always enjoy seeing photos of jams, where ever they may be. The lineup you had was crazy! I sure missed a good time.
I spoke to Patti a few days ago. Keep me posted where your Ty Braddock gigs are. That music is right down your alley.
