For a minute I was afraid this was an X-rated post!
You may want to move your range back another 10-20 years for "old" pedal steels. The newest Dekley was built in 1983 or 1984 and there are still a bunch of them still being played. |

Here's three ShoBuds, one from the 1960's and two from the 1970's, belonging (in order, front to back) to Harley James, Dave Grafe and Doug Jones. All three of these guitars are being played regularly still so I'm not sure if they could really be considered "dinosaurs" but they ARE considerably older than a lot of the folks in the audience (and some of them on the bandstand) these days....

THE BEAST
12-string push-pulls are a bit harder to date. I'd been told 1969 but Dr. Cass told me it was early 70s. It is a magnificent guitar. It plays as many gigs as either of my newer, all-pull guitars. And, yes, it growls.

Except for an add-on knee pedal on the less faded Fender 400, these two are identical. Their vintage is--informed guess--1970-1974. So, they just squeak in.
Yet, Fender used the cable mechanism for around 20 years. Any cable Fender is a lovely dinosaur. _________________ slide avant-gardist, experimentalist, echo surfer

Great pics guys..You can certainly see that the steel guitar has come a long way in style and design..Herb ,I was wondering if you knew what the price for 1949 would have been??...Keep this post going..please. _________________ WILCOX SD10 (love the white mica)

David
I know Jerry Girard and he says that when he got the guitar in 1949, it only had one pedal and metal necks
I don't know what he paid for it, but Jussi might have a price list from that era.
Here's a photo of Jerry playing it at my booth at ISGC one year.
.
Just for some more eye candy for ya, here's a shot of my old Emmons #1164008W, now lovingly owned by Russ Blake.
