I believe that's a Fender isnt it? He keeps it real low and drives is like some kind of submerged attack vessel. Pure Dy-no-might!! He's got some killer Utubes around here somewhere. |

What a TONE he has on that "no-pedal" steel guitar! I would like to know what kind of amp he was playing through.
Not only did he have a great tone, but his playing was very honest and true to the tune. He faithfully backed up the lead instrument, and when he took the lead he left you wishing he had played 8 more bars. You could almost hear Hank Snow singing in the background.
Like most musicians, I am not easily impressed, but Kayton Roberts sent me to You-Tube hunting for more of his great playing. If anyone knows him, tell him PLEASE record a project for all of us who are just now beginning to appreciate the "no-pedal" pure steel guitar.
Thanks to Marty Stuart for presenting this great musician. _________________ Zum Steel, Little Walter Amp, Benado Steel Dream

In ’77/’78 when both Kayton and I were working the Opry, he was having a problem with his DeArmond Volume-Pedal, so; during our breaks, I examined his pedal and discovered that whoever installed his vol-pot had wired the (2) lead-wires in reverse, so; with my trusty little soldering-iron, I put the wires on the proper terminals and it then worked fine! I say all that to say this: It appeared that he is still using that vol-pedal or one similar to it, after all those years! (Good title for a song!!!) “After All Those Years” Remember that one? But, that's off topic! _________________ <marquee> Go~Daddy~Go, (No), Go, It's your Break Time</marquee> L8R, jb

Nick : I was shocked to see Kayton on Marty's show but thrilled as he has always been my favorite of all the " LAp " steel players and the back-bone sound of Hank Snow; And he doing my top tune of Hank's [ A Fool Such As I ]. Beautiful Harmony with the lead guitar and such great tone from his steel..And a true gent that Kayton is. Have seen him many times with Hank on the Opry.. They don't come any better..Thanks Nick for sharing him with us..Bernie _________________ 2007 Zum S-10; 1967 Sho-Bud [ D-10 ]; 85 S-10 Sierra; 1953 Multi-Kord [ 6 String- 4 pedals ] A Sho-Bro six String Resonator Guitar; Nashville 112 Amp; hilton Vol. Pedal |

It was great but could have been better if he'd
have had two spots like most guests instead of waiting til the show was about over and crowding in only one song. IMHO |

I have had that happen before, John. My dad wired mine up backwards one time, when he changed a pot out for me. It drove me crazy. Daddy was good in electronics repair. But when it came to working on steel guitar volume pedals, let's just say it was better left up to a professional. Remember kids, don't do this at home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Linda & I are so blessed to be personal friend's with Kayton. We only live about 3 miles apart from each other. Kayton was Linda's Steel Guitar teacher after she got the Fender Stringmaster. Also we've enjoyed numerous living room jams over at Kayton's house. He's always so down to earth and treats everyone like his own family. Kayton is a real treasure!
Here's Linda have a Steel lesson using Kayton's guitar

I caught the show. His tone and playing were outstanding! Wish I could do a bar slant that smoothly.... |
