I am also raising and lowering all 3 Es on mine, as well as lowering the G#s at 6 and 11... _________________ ARTIST RELATIONS: MSA GUITARS

On the 12th string E, I lower to C# with the F lever. I also raise 12th string E to F# with C pedal. MD |

Whatever you do, don't lower the 12th string E with your 4th & 8th strings. You lose a very important C6th type voicing by doing that!....JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

Why do you lose the C6 voicing by dropping the 12 E with 4/8? Wouldn't you just get more range on the voicing? Plus you can start the move at string 10 to get the same effect from 10 sring, Ala All My Exes Intro.. right? |

The C6th tuning has an F as the 9th string, forming an often-used FMaj7 chord. When you lower strings 4 and 8 on a 12 string to get B6th, you would want the low E to stay at E for EMaj7 to match the C6th tuning.
The low D# wouldn't be nearly as useful as the low E. It might sound like a good idea in theory, but in practice the E works much better. If you want to add a 3rd pull to that lever, lower your 2nd string to C#. _________________ -πππ- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

I change things around from time to time on this guitar, since it is real easy to do and is permanently set up at home. There are a few lower string changes I removed to make the pulls easier. P4 string 10 to C# (which may reappear again). Missing from the Franklin pedal on P5 is the whole lower on 10. Pedals 6, 7 and 8 are typically not present on an Ext E9, but this was a U12, so I use those as experiments in progress.

...and then, if the string sounds good when lowered that far, you may use a pedal/lever to independently lower 12th string E to B to finish it off at the low end. |
