Real country music is not dead in Nashville! at least on Broadway and at the Station Inn it's not.
I had the best time of my life this week in Nashville.I heard lots of good bands and good pickers. To me the best was at the "Wheel" followed by the "Stage" "Roberts Western World" "Laylas Country Inn" and the "Station Inn", home of the "Time Jumpers".What needs to be said about the "Time Jumpers", simply amazing.Terry Crisp was subbing for an ill Paul Frankin.I've never heard Paul live but I don't see how he could have been any better, no reflection on Paul.
Some of the steel guitar pickers I heard were Mike Sweeny, Gary Morse, the great Doug Jernigan ,is anybody faster!.There was one more but I can't recall his name ,he's a regular down on Broadway,in fact he told me some places to go to on this forum last week .I'm sorry I forgot your name but you were great to.
Met Bobby Seymour at Steel Guitar Nashville. My only disappointment was the Tuesday night GRAND OLE OPRY.The Riders in the Sky,Bill Anderson,Jeany Sealy Little Jimmy Dickens and The Time Jumpers were great. There should be a age limit at the Opry,no one under 30 allowed! They are killing the Opry. There was some Faith Hill want-a-be and some pretty boy and the Steel Magnolias were pathetic!Tommy White was on stage but you could hardly hear him. What a waste of his talent but I know he still got paid.
Bill Anderson had a very good steel picker , a lady whose last name was White. Is she Tommy's wife?
To sum all up If you want to hear good country music come to Nashville , but stay on Broadway!
