Thanks Don, your the winner! A year ago when this came up for sale, after all the good that is said about them and it's great builder, I couldn't live with out it. But, since that time I have found that I may be able to. It has never been out of my house. It is beautiful beyond words to this old steel hack, but it needs to be played. I'm 5'2", sitting behind this beautiful steel is like sitting at a grand piano for me, I can not get comfortable with it. It's just not me. It's a Caddie and I'm a 74 Ford Pick-up fella. My working steel is a Marlen 3/4 S10, it's me and I'm it. Heck, my wife even said she was going to bury it with me. What a lady. So the Rains goes, clear and simple. To someone who will break it in, I hope and play it out like it should be. |

This steel is Emmons on pedals and left Knees.
I've gone through this several times and I think the following is correct.
LKV- Lowers 5th (Split) to Bb/C,
Lowers 10th (Split)to Bb/C
RKL- Raises 1st to G#/ with feel stop at G,
Raises 2nd to E,
Lowers 6th (Split) to F#/G#
RKR- Lowers 2nd to D/C# feel stop at D,
Lowers 9th to C#
Raises 7th to G
RKV- Is not hooked up, never got that far and
wouldn't know what to use it for if I did.
I never did get the feel stop on the 1st the way I like it and don't have the G# and E pulls on my other steel.
The decal on the right front is a dove with the words "The Spirit" under it. The fret board is also marked with doves. Beautiful!
I am not exactly sure what the age of the steel is. One of the last "Spirit" Models, I suspect. Marked low 100s. If interested in purchase, Email me for exact sn.
This steel has no known problems, is very near new and has only been played by me a few hours in my smokeless home (for what that matters). The first string change RKL feels a little stiffer then I am accustom to, but has more changes on it then I am also accustom to.
Oh, what the hay. I'll throw in the full set of "Beginners Notes" tabs as a bonus. |

For what it's worth here are the facts!
I played it. It plays great! It looks absolutely new. Great tone! Looks like it just came out of the factory. If I could justify another steel (and I'm still trying) this would be it!

Hi Terry,
It is 33 and 1/4 inches, outside end plate to outside end plate. Standard, 29 and 1/2 inches floor to strings. Height was measured on carpet, that should be very close. It is the "Spirit" model. The exact age of the instrument, I do not know. I believe it is one of the last Spirit models manufactured. Email me for ser. data. |

Appreciate the info Dick. I wish I had something I could sell to buy this steel guitar. The setup is exactly what I'm use to, and the Doves, representing the Holy Spirit, just really makes the Spirit model a special guitar. It's really a beauty!

Hello Dick,
I can not believe this Beautiful Steel Guitar has not been sold. I purchased this same axe about a year ago (perhaps longer) from an upstanding FORUM member.
I do not believe there is a finer pedal steel made than "RAINS". I paid more than what you are asking and I have 5 knee levers not 6! I would love to have that extra lever to use for a 7th string R/L.
All I can say is, this is a quality instrument that will last a lifetime. It is "BLACK" and has Pearl Inlay on it. It does not get better than this.
If I did not already own 3 PSG's, I would jump on this deal.
Good Luck Buddy! |

Hey Buddy,
Here are a couple pic's of my 3 X 5 Rains. I think I paid $2700, and am pleased as I could be. I get "the sound" that I have been after all my life. I hardly ever have to tune it, it is much easier to lug around than the D-10's I have, and it is as black as black can get. Oh yea, the chrome shines real fine under the lights.
If I had the extra knee (RV), I think I would incorporate the "Franklin" lowers on 5 & 6. Maybe start with just the 6 lower. David Hartley uses that for some subtle little grace notes. I love how he does that.
I should also put the 7th string raise on mine (like you already have). I added it to my Carter D-10 and use it all the time.
The Steel you are selling here has everything you can do to a E9th.
If anyone is looking for a E9th Pedal Steel, this is the one. Use what ever volume pedal you want, Does not seem to affect tone. Pedals and knees work smooth and easy. The price is good!
Merry Christmas y'all |

Michael, looks identical and "One Beautiful Steel". Sure can see that purple shirt well in the polished end plate.
I don't know how Gary gets such a shine on his steels, almost chrome.
Thanks... |
