I sure wish I lived in Austin! I just ordered Neil's E9th instruction book + CD from his web site. I'll post again when I've received it and had a chance to work with it a bit.

I just got back from a couple days in Austin where I had a lesson with Neil. What a great guy and what a lesson! Neil is very patient, thoughtful, generous and just an all around cool cat. I'd be a regular student if I lived in Austin or even San Antonio, and plan to see him again whenever I make it back there. You all are so lucky to have him there! |

I recently made the trip down to Austin for a 2 day lesson from Neil.
It was such a treat to sit down across from Neil (we have matching push/pulls) and take in all that he had to offer. The man really has a ton of knowledge to share and is such a great teacher.
I walked away feeling like I had a better understanding of how this instrument was suppose to be played ,plus he give me enough homework with some great old Jimmy Day and Buddy Emmons licks to keep me busy for a while.
After the lessons Neil and I talked for hours,he has some really interesting stories and some intersting observations,he is just a great guy,I left Austin with a new outlook on steel guitar and made a new friend in the process,I suggest that anyone looking to better their playing, at any skill level, should give Neil Flanz a shout.
Thanks,Neil for everything,I hope to see you again soon. |

Neil, I am waiting on my guitar to arrive, so I will be contacting you soon for my first lesson. Thanks for all your advise and guidance. I would have many many mistakes if it had not been for your generosity and help in understanding about what I should purchase to get me started on this new adventure.
See ya soon, Sherry |

Had my first lesson with Neil yesterday and I've got to say he's a fountain of information. I not only got a lesson on playing, but on the history of the steel. I'm a beginner and Neil had me feeling like I might actually be able to play this contraption; I wasn't so sure before. He gave me plenty of challenging stuff to learn, but made it easy to see why I needed to know it and how to go about it. If you get a chance definitely give Neil a call for a lesson. He's also a great guy and makes you feel at home. |

Just wanted to bump Neil up to the top where he belongs. Everyone needs his influence in their playing.
You will be continually amazed at the teaching and the stories.
Thanks for everything, Neil. I appreciate you taking the time to teach me and consider it one of the highlights of my musical career.

Bump to the top!
Just had a lesson with Neil which makes two so far in total. Both were great and got something to take home from both of them.
Neil's a great player and teacher and is guaranteed to show you something you don't know. If you live in Austin, or just visiting, take a lesson!!!!
Thanks Neil for the great stuff, now it's off to practice it! Got lots of work to do on the C6th now!

I was lucky enough to take a lesson with Neil on Friday. Considering the amount of information I received, it was more like a "master class" than a lesson, even though I'm a beginner on PSG. Neil is an inspiring player with an encyclopedic knowledge of the instrument and the repertoire. Plus, he's set up to provide a CD of the day's lesson, along with his most excellent hand-outs. Best of all, he's a patient and encouraging teacher. Can't ask for more than that.
No matter what level player you are, you should take advantage of the opportunity to sit across from Neil Flanz and pick some. A good time and a wealth of knowledge is guaranteed. |

I second what Jeoff says!
That just about sums it up.
I am not a beginner, but i felt like one sitting across Neil. It was a totally positive experience. _________________ 1983 Emmons D10 SKH, Carter SD10, Nashville 112, Session 500, ProfexII, Lapsteels, GT-Beard reso, guitars of all kinds...
