Finally, after several years of deep penetrating frustration and long-lasting depression, I've found me the greatest band possible. I didn't have to offer large sums of money to gain their attention nor, did they ask.
I gleaned the hook-up with this band thro' the courtesy of everybody's enthusiastic friend Doug Beumier (sp? I apologize). I can't say enough nice things about Doug or his fine playing. His technical knowledge is unequalled and his generosity is second to none.
My new friend Dave Hartley from the UK who got me all fired up while watching him in Texas last March. David motivated me enough to work out all of the details and the band is sitting out in my music room awaiting my return for the next jam.
NOW, I'm able to play ANY SONG that I WANT TO PLAY!I know some of you have been doing this for years and I'm happy for you. But for me, it's been a long, slow road to reach this point.
THANKS to you all for helping to get the ball a rolling. |

Ray, I so happy to hear that for you. It comes in circles. I was feeling dispondent about my work as a musician. Then I went through every inch of your Jerry Byrd page and I felt like a new man. That you were able to spend some time with him and transmit his vibe online so well led me to more learning. I know his name, that he played steel, but I did not understand that he was musician's musician. That will most often be lost on the public. Steel guitar music is the greatest american(and Hawaiian)export. It's part of a great legacy to which you've made great additions.
Thanks with every bit of soul I've got left _________________ Carter-Magnum S10. Georgeboards S-8 Stealth. Chandler Lap. Peavey Powerslide. Bunch of mandolins. Sitar. Oud. All that and a bag of chips. |

Ray I am glad that you found your link to the past that included great musicians. In the beginning I worked with those who were great but not acknowledged, and I learned so much from them.
I used what I learned from them to enter the world of western-swing, and I was accepted even though I was not a great musician.
I worked steadily until I decided that I had to learn "Nashville pedals" to survive. When I did that, I started getting jobs, but my joy of playing diminished until I no longer enjoyed working.
My rig sits in my music room, alone and abandoned. I wonder if I will ever will want to play again. _________________ "FROM THEN TIL' NOW" |

Gene.....thanks for your comments.
Within just 10-15 minutes of getting the tracks up and running, I found that my mind was filled with all kinds of alternatives for the various tunes I was playing.
I didn't have to struggle as I have these past few years. That strong new rhythm section with identifiable chord changes rather than the LOUD, rim-shots of today's so-called country bands..... tends to inspire one's mind into all of those exciting alternative melody choices.
Please don't let that guitar sit any longer. I have for far too long, and it is nearly impossible to get the creative juices flowing once again. It happened before, for ten years, when good olde ELVIS put so many of us out of work. I've been writing-of my mental constipation of late, to olde age, but I find more accurately, it was a lack of motivation as a result of having no one inspiring to play with.
Had it not been for DOUG Beaumier (sp?).......... I wouldn't be in the pleasant position in which I find myself at this writing. THANKS DOUG! |

Gene I certainly hope you get back into the "SWING" of things soon. It has been people like yourself that have made me keep playing, I am not a great player but I never gave up. Going on your website and listening to you play has helped me more than you know. I thank you for the things you have helped me with over the years. I am proud to say that we have one of the best Country Gospel bands in the Northwest. (IMOP). There is nothing like looking forward to Sunday and Wed service. Except being there.

I'd give anything to have such a talent like Elvis do it again today. |
