Shown is my wife's fathers 1952 triple 8 Custom Deluxe which he bought new and basically supported his family with until his passing in 1977. He was a professional musician, that's what he did for his living. And, his name was also Tony , how about that. The Steel sat in it's case in very rough shape until last year when we decided to bring it over to Bobbe Seymour for some sort of restoration. We decided to leave the body as is , as it has all of the marks from Bonnie's dad. Bobbe and Mike Cass brought the Steel back to presentable and very functional condition and it sounds great ! Now, when we went to pick it up last week the bobster also had a 1952 Deluxe 6 in, MINT, pristine condition, so we did the natural thing, we bought it ! I can tell you this, I wish I could go back 3 decades or so and start playing again on a single 6 or single 8. The S6 is just way to kool and has brought about an entirely new way for me to approach and explore the basic C6 tuning.
Having the T8 set up really brings back great memories for Bonnie, thanks to Bobbe and Mike for a great job in getting this Steel back together.
The Triple 8 has A6,C6 and E13 , wish I could say been there done that , but I can't...but, it's never too late to start !

This is such an inspiring story. Thanks so much for sharing this.
That triple tuning selection pretty much covers all the bases, plus you have the extra 6-er for another, maybe B11? Very cool.
Did the guitar come to you modified in any way? Any added switches or pots?

Josh,
The T-8 never had any mods and is just as it was from Fender, just a really worn body which is where the history lives.
The S6, no modifications, totally original and barely played ,the tweed case is a "10" as well. The back of the guitar body is the only place where there is a ding, it looks like someone was sitting on a chair and playing and the arm of the chair made marks on the back of the body , other than that it's incredibly clean, this was a nice find which we could not pass up.
Good thing I wasn't looking for a Fender 1000, Bobbe has one in the store that is still brand new, I doubt it was ever played. What a beauty...

Wonderful story and made even better by the fact that the guitar is still in the family.
Cool photo!! See the old version of the Shure 55 mic over on the right. I have one of those. You need to buy it from me and just sit it next to the steel when you play. |

Dennis, you are so right. I think we always knew that one day we would get the T8 restored , we carried it around with us since 1982 from state to state, house to house, always knowing ( thinking ) we would one day get it restored. I think the Bobster said it best, when we brought it to him it was worth nothing , in extremely poor condition, now it's priceless with a lifetime of memories.
Quite frankly had it not been for this forum and the participation from so many folks, including Bobbe, the Steel would probably still be in the case wasting away. I would never have discovered the resources to go forward with the restoration, so, thanks to b0b too !

Bill, I will permit you to SEND me that 55 ( free) and I will place it on a stand next to the Fender ! 
good eye...but I noticed you didn't mention the guy playing the Strat in the 1955 photo ! I actually played in a band with that guy for a few years , many years later. He had already sold the Strat.

That's a great story, Tony. I'm glad the guitar is up and running again (and has a friend to keep it company).
Bobbe, your store isn't messy at all. You're just using what my wife calls her "piling system".

I saw the Strat. I bet not very people will remember seeing the tailpiece cover that is on it! Usually those are long gone. |

All of the chrome had to be re-done, new legs , new wiring and I believe 2 pups had to be redone. We only cleaned the body as we did not want to refinish it.
Oh, yeh, it needed 3 new sets of strings too, the others were probably 35 years old !

Lynn Oliver,
I rewound the three pickups, fixed the gears in the keyheads and had to rewire most of the old in wiring.
Replaced the pickup housings because of severe rust and restrung, (of course) Mike Cass reassembled the parts and did the string replacement work.
Works great. I'm doing two more Fenders now, not my favorite guitar to find parts for.

Lynn Oliver,, I believe we "Steel Guitar Nashville" have the largest professional restoration center for steel guitar in the world. I do a lot of the work and have two employees that do a bulk of the work, Buck Reid and Mike cass.
These guys know what a steel guitar is 'sposed to do. GREAT PLAYERS, both.
(and I know what a table saw can do!)
