What's this?
NASHVILLE (AP) — Brooks & Dunn says they're done.
The best-selling country duo posted a message on its website Monday saying they've agreed to "call it a day" after 20 years of making music together.

Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn thanked their fans and said it was "just time" to part.

Brooks & Dunn will release a greatest hits album on Sept. 18 and tour one last time in 2010.

The duo's many hits include Boot Scootin' Boogie,My Maria,Red Dirt Road and Cowgirls Don't Cry with Reba McEntire.

My thoughts would be they are just tired of each other and the whole thing they have been through. I think they just want to get away individually and do their own thing. It doesn't negate getting back together someday years from now.

The guy who sings all the hits....man I have been wondering why he is linked up to the other fellow for a long time. If he had been a solo artist and had all those hits he would be a zillionaire instead of just a millionaire....maybe the other guy wrote them..

I didn't care for their version of 'My Maria'. Buckwheat Stevenson's version was hundreds of times better.

last tour 2010 ? Uhmm....

Does this mean the re-union tour and CD will be out in 2011 ?

think Judds.

think Celine

think money

Don Henley said they can make an entire career out of breaking up and having a re-union CD , DVD and tour and make much more money doing this than trying to stay together. ( laughs )

The "other guy" AKA Kix Brooks, ain't too bad a singer himself! He was the lead vocalist on "Rock My World Little Country Girl", "You're Gonna Miss Me", as well as their version of "Best of my Love" which they had on the Eagles tribute album along with some others. He's kinda like the life of the party at their shows as all Ronnie does is sing and isn't much of a showman.

As far as "My Maria" goes, I thought their version was pretty d@mn good but I'll have to say I liked B.W. Stevenson's a little better myself but not by a lot! I don't go to concerts so I'm not gonna miss 'em that much as I have some of their CD's so it'll be OK when they're gone.

Sugarland is another example of a duo where only one person sings the majority (or all) of the songs, I think the only duo who really share lead vocalist duties is Montgomery Gentry....JH in Va.

they are the only one's who shoot and kill Bears that are "locked in" too...

I like B+D, I think of all the duo's with one voice they are leaders of the pack. Ronnie is a great singer and generally they have very good songs.

I heard it on the radio while at my "day job"( which I work at night) and it took me by surprise. I got the chance to see them in Baton Rouge back in 2001. I really enjoyed them, they put on a good show too.
But like all good things in life they do come to an end, sooner or later.

I very seriously doubt that this will have much of a negative effect on Gary Morse. I've known Gary practically all of my life, and I've yet to see him out of work in this industry at any time. Gary is one of the few number one choices when it comes to steel players, and he is very proficient on other instruments as well, (guitar, dobro, etc.) Generally speaking, as soon as one of the major acts discovers Gary is available, they go out of their way if need be to get him, even to a point of replacing their current player. Been there, witnessed it.... He has a personality of gold, and talent to match.

I'm also with Tony P. on this one. First thought that came to mind was that whole unsavory Judds business. Second thought that came to mind was, "Is this finally the end of line dancing?" Unfortunately, NOT! Oh Well

I'm kinda sorry to hear they're calling it quits, they've been a powerhouse and I've really enjoyed their music. If they're going to continue with seperate careers now I think Ronnie Dunn will do better than Kix Brooks.

Yeah, but how many of you thought it was the end of Dolly's career when she left Porter's show?

I believe I read somewhere that they were solo artists anyway, and were put together by a label or management company or something.

Sad news indeed. But, I have to say, Ronnie Dunn is what made Brooks and Dunn a success. His voice is one of the best that country music has ever seen. Kix Brooks was a good songwriter, but very mediocre as a singer. What guitar licks he played could easily have been covered by any of the additional 100 guitar players they seem to have on stage. I think Ronnie should take the band and continue. Except for the few songs Kix sang, I wouldn't miss him one bit. Plus he was irritating to watch.

I do thank them for many years of great music and wish them both the best of luck in the future.

I'll make a confession. When Brooks and Dunn first started getting airplay in the 80's. I hadn't heard them, but I'd heard the name a lot. I thought it was a duo of Garth Brooks and Holly Dunn. Both of them were pretty popular at the time and I thought it was logical. I felt kind of stupid when I found out who they really were.
