Calvin this is a very simple process even though the way I present it here may appear complicated.
A (1chord) to Dmaj 7( 4maj7) to D (4 chord)
The theory here is that to move to a chord from another chord you simply just go to some form of the new chord early. This is just one of many possibilities.
/ A * * */ D * * * / could be / A * Dmaj7/ D * * * /
In your down position for the A chord we would be at the 12th fret with A & B down and of course using our A, B & C pedals to play Your major scale. Move back to the 10th fret with your E knee lever ( the one that lowers both Es) and use your A, B & C pedals to play Your Dmaj scale the let off the E lever at the 10th fret and you in D ( the 4 chord).
I could have just as easy used just the D chord early but it sounds better to have one note resolve. But as I said it doesn’t have to be Dmaj7 it could have been any form of D.
The same would apply going from the 1 to the 5.
/A * * * / E * * * / could be / A * Emaj7 / E * * * /
A chord with the A&B at the 12th fret to the Emaj7 with the E knee at the 12th fret to E with no pedals at the 12th fret. Again it could have been any form of E.
I didn’t list the way this works at the 5th fret A chord position. To keep from boring everyone here with it I would be glad to email you tab. |

Calvin seems you may be talking [passing chords] here.A nice sounding change is Play your root chord then a root aug to the four,If the change is the root to the five, try the root, then dim to the five.this works at any tempo, but is nice for sloooow ballards. i can play the chords , but as Charles put it i need the passing notes to make it flow better
i just can't seem to find the right ones
mmmm i have been thinking about what you said Bo, it makes sense buthis song seem to sound better starting at the 5th fret and resolving to the 12th

I didn't make my self clear. I was not speaking of playing the chord but rather playing within the chord position. As you can see the scales are all played the same within the chord position making it very easy to adlib.
I move the tab to the the proper catagory which is oddly enough called "Tablature". Here is the url for Tab for "transition help" "Heartaches by the Numbers"
