Bob, are you out there somewhere? No email reply yet. |

I'm disappointed I won't be able to make it there this time, as my gig schedule conflicts with it. I look forward to seeing everyone at the next one. Thanks.

Any nearby players/attendees who can come by at 9am and help me arrange the rooms (moving chairs & tables) for the jam would be very much appreciated. I may also need some help when the jam is over to restore the rooms to their normal arrangement.
Thanks!

I'll try to be there as close to 9:00 am as I can. It's a bit of a drive, so go ahead and start without me. |

I'd bet it was low. I wasn't able to make it due to some last minute family issues. |

At the jam was Steve French, Pat Hattic, Steve Benzian, Richard Sinkler, Bob Lee, Bill Llewellyn, Doug Martin, Dave Zirbel, Charlie Wallace, Tom (?), Larry Chung, Bobby Black.
There were also a few spectators, 4 or 5.
I had a GREAT time and can't wait until the next one.

Dave,
Thanks for the attendance summary. The turnout really was quite good. And Bobby Black's presence crowned the day.
Dave, you've got some hot chops there. You and Charlie Wallace could have a sprint race for speed picking. Wow. Steve French was another first timer at the jam, and was just superb. The Tom you mentioned is Tom Cooper, one of our very faithful participants. Doug was another first time attendee (just starting on PSG; we need to get the headphones off him and get him to play out loud!). Bobby Black brought 'only' his 10-string lap steel, and wowwed everybody. Gosh, what he can get out of that thing without pedals! Thanks to b0b Lee for bringing his BIAB/laptop. Indispensible. And Larry Chung.... don't get me started. He and I were about on a par two years ago, now I'm eating his dust. He's coming along fast. Lottsa woodshedding, he tells me. (Don't forget the girlfriend, Larry. They only put up with so much upstaging!) Me personally, I was off that day. Messing up chord progressions, clawing at the strings. Yuk. But it sure was fun to watch the others! Richard, Pat, Steve.... everybody was laying down some really nice chops.
Thanks to all for coming. It was a good time.

Dave, I'll try and get the pix up this weekend. This is an incredibly busy week for me.... I also got about 1/2 hour of video. I can't put that online 'cuz the files would be too big. |

Sounds like a great time. I'm sorry I couldn't be there.
Anybody who hasn't signed up for the sfsteelers group on Yahoo! should do so if you're a Bay Area steel player. |

Big time thanks to Bill for all his work hosting the event. I had a great time meeting some old friends and a bunch of new folks. It's always amazing how fast the day goes by. I'm already looking forward to the next one! |

Thanks very much, Bill, for putting this jam and these jams together. They are really important to making us into a community of musicians and friends, way beyond any lick or fill or copedant. I deeply appreciate the opportunity to meet, sit, chat, play and learn with and from folks I have never met from walks of life I don't myself walk. What a supportive group of folks!
I spent that same evening having dinner with some bluegrass friends (including the current Chairman of the Califonia Bluegrass Association) who were very, very impressed and excited about the steel jam here in the Bay Area. Bill, I hope that you are proud of not only your playing (which was great!) but also the fact that you're providing a great resource for lots of folks who, a few years ago, didn't have a way of meeting and making a community.
My bluegrass friends also remarked that steel players really enjoy sharing the knowledge and ideas they have worked so hard to develop, and I have to agree!
I had a wonderful time, Bill, and keep up the great work and know you're making a difference for all of us.
ZBest,
larry |

Bill,
Thanks for putting these Jams together. Again, sorry I didn't get a chance to bring my equipment over and join in. Next year I will though. Sorry I missed Bob! I finally made it over to Santa Cruz, and got my thing done without a hitch!! Anyway, give me a call if you need to use a studio in anyway. That's why I have it. Oh! I'll send you an email as to the dates/times that I'll be playing. Our next gig will be Saturday, June 5th, at the Little Fox Theatre in Redwood City. Hope you can make it!
Bob |
