The crit is of the song only.... It's either a good song, or bad..... It made me cringe...so, I would class it as a bad song. What's disrespectful in that?
I am a great fan of JH's playing, but I reckon this overly soppy song (lyrics) just does not cut it. |

The love & respect that I heard in Vince's voice, makes it one of the better songs I have ever heard. It says so much about Vince, John & Jean.
I've heard Tommy White & Paul play the song. Both were great! I don't think it matters who is playing, I still think of John and I think thats what Vince intended.
Sorry you missed that in the song. _________________ NTSGA #11

I don't think John Hughey had a better friend in this then Vince Gill, other then Mrs. Jean. I think the song was sung from his heart in memory of John Hughey. I don't think for a moment he meant it to be anything other then what it is, a great tribute. And Vince didn't have to share it with us or anyone else, and he may never have meant it to be put up on youtube for the world to hear and critique. Mr. Franklin did a good job. But, I don't particularly care for the song, I had trouble understanding the lyrics. In my opinion, it's not Vince or Paul's best work, but I'm sure they know that. I do, appreciate them doing it. RIP Mr. Hughey, I'm proud to have met and heard you play. I wish I had taken up more of your time when I had the chance. My loss. |

Ron,
Couldn't agree with you mote.....you are 1000% correct.
JH has been my inspiration for years, and I try my best to play my music with the same passion and feeling that he had for his music. |

John was one of my favorite players, and I admire his talent more than I can explain. I met him a few times and he and his wife seemed like real nice people.
When I die, it would be a great honor to have someone write a song about me. However, I would hope it would have a title not as corny as "Buttermilk John".
John don't need anything to remind people of him. His playing with Conway, etc...will speak for itself for years to come, long after the "Buttermilk" song is forgotten.
Just my $0.02. |
