New to all of this PSG thing so will my Peavey Bandit 112 work out OK since I'm just now learning the PSG, also is there a proper way to set an amp up from volume to setting the other buttons. I hate it when I'm the New kid on the block. Rolling Eyes

Don,

The Peavey Bandit will work fine for steel guitar. I've used them for practice and small gigs. I have a Bandit and a NV112 side by side in my practice room and can set the Bandit up to sound just like the NV112.

The biggest difference in that scenario is the Bandit only cost me $80 as opposed to the $400 NV112.

There's many inexpensive amps out there that can be excellent practice amps.

Go for it!

The Bandit 112 Trans Tube is a great little amp. I got lucky enough to purchase one for $25 that had a small problem with the inputs on the effects loop. A friend of mine owed me a favor, replaced them and it works beautifully. I actually gave this amp to my son for his first rig. I never thought about it for steel though. Hmm, maybe I can talk him out of it...

Don, you're probably going to use a volume pedal so you'll need to figure that in how you set the amp's volume. Many folks want clean headroom for this, and you would set the master volume always higher than the gain. Get a practice volume with strong picking about halfway down on the volume pedal.

The tone knobs on Peaveys are usually good for setting to taste. Again, lots of folks "scoop" the mids out, while boosting the bass and treble.

It's a starting point....have fun experimenting!

i've got an older pre trans tube bandit 112. good practice amp..and used on big concert stage by necessity one day with mic..great sound. that was with the scorpion spkr. now has a 12 in. black widow that really kicks butt for guitar.

i see these amps cheap all the time...craigslist had a fairly new trans tube one for $150 the other day.
the best all around sleeper amp....i wouldn't pay $400+ for a nash 112....

Thanks guys for all of your input. When I can get my first song on the output then I'll look for a better amp but for now it will have to do. Thanks again
