George,

Again, an impressive instrument for sure. I love the
sound but was wondering if the demonstration there
was done with the pickup active or not?

It would be great for recording direct. EQ and
volume control are all right there.

A refreshing change from the nasal sound of the
Dobro ( which I love also ).

They might love it too much. Shocked George, it's a wonderful act of civic munificence to offer an instrument of this quality for under $500, but you're going to be overwhelmed with orders. I think you should up the price, or you're going to be producing hundreds of guitars for the same profit as dozens, and bang goes your social life... Sad

I have to add that I'm astonished at the tone you're getting out of that instrument without a pickup. Whatever you did to it, keep it up, it sounds and looks great. Very Happy

Or married life. Watch out!! You always need that special someone to love you and for you to love her. Steel guitars don't do that as far as I know. Winking

Have you ever had a time when your new steel arrived at home and you were miles away?

I had ordered one of GeorgeBoards Acoustic Steel before the TSGA show and it arrived at my house on Tuesday 4/28. It was Friday 5/1 before I got a chance to play it.

The guitar ships with E tuning strings but I changed them to C6th. Tuned it up and started playing.

I have to admit at first I was not impressed. It sounded so different than anything I had played before. The more I played and tried different bars, picks etc. I found what is to me the perfect combo. Plastic picks and of course one of my 7/8" X 3" lead-filled glass bars. (shameless plug) Winking The steel bars did real well also.

I have now had a chance to play it for about six hours and have really fallen for the sound. Soft acoustic tones and not too many over-tones. I have plugged it into my computer amp and it did very nicely. The micro-cube is also clean. (watch the reverb) and the best(so far)is straight into the 1948 Fender Deluxe. I also got it to growl a little going through the Line 6 JM4 Looper. that's always fun.

There are a few minor flaws on these but for $499.00 you cannot expect perfection. I have had worse problems with much more expensive guitars. For the money I feel they are well worth it. My classical guitar gig bag fits well enough to take it out and I can't wait to play it a little more. There are a few different tunings I want to try also. Standard G and Cindy's G6th. A6th is OK but I have just never cared for that tuning on a six string steel.

This is really a great deal. What this steel really showed me is that... I need to practice more. Embarassed

GARY: WHY did you change strings in order to play in C6th? Couldn't you have just changed the pitch on a couple strings and let 'er fly?

George, so do you just glue these fine looking guitars together and mold some of your fabulous love and tone into the rich woods........or, do you actually go out and chop down the tree from which to make these beautiful instruments?

Just curious.......as we know and appreciate what a stickler you are for DETAIL.

George,
Believe me when I say I know how you feel. We do it for the love of the instrument.

It has been just over a month since I received my Acoustic Hawaiian and I can honestly say that I have not played any other steels since. I just LOVE it!

This has been so much fun for me. Since I am an Early riser and my family likes to sleep in I have alway had to practice with headphones. Since I got this steel I have not had to do that. I can quietly play the BIAB tracks and play along not bothering anybody but the dog.

My other GeorgeBoards single neck console sets right here and I know is feeling neglected. Maybe next weekend...

Well the answer to that one is none. I only build for myself and close friends. I thought of buying one of your Weissenborns but I already have two I built myself, and I have plans this year to build three 8-string Weiseenborns; one regular, one with a biscuit resonator, and one with a steel body and a biscuit resonator. I love to experiment, but by day I'm an accountant, so I don't get time to build for customers. When I moved from England to San Francisco nearly 30 years ago I decided to give up accountancy and become a luthier. It didn't take long for the reality to set in, and I drifted back into accounting as it was the only way to pay the rent. Sad As one of the organizers of the Northern California Association of Luthiers I meet most of the luthiers on the West Coast. The public imagines that anyone charging $15-20,000 per guitar must be rich, until they realize that the average luthier only puts out 8 to 12 guitars a year, uses expensive materials, and has a hard time making it from day to day.... Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Mr Piburn, my apologies for the misnomer.
I am also wondering if your guitar can be tuned to G without problems?
Thanks again,

George, thank you for all you've done for the steel guitar. You put in many years and a small fortune to try to make the best non-pedal guitars you could - both electric, and now, acoustics - and to develop unique resources to teach beginning players. I can certainly understand why it's a losing proposition. Nevertheless, you created a legacy of beautiful, unique, timeless instruments of the highest quality and aesthetics. You can feel proud that these guitars are going to last for generations. Good luck with the new acoustics; thye look and sound like a great value.

I am looking forward to seeing and hearing the new video with the guitar tuned in G. Thanks for all your extra work on this tuning! FYI, the strings I use are .016, .018, .028, .035, .045, .056. I don't know if it would help you but I can give you the tension that the string manufacturer lists if you are interested...in pounds or kgs. I can understand having to use a lighter gauge on this guitar, probably would have the best sound that way also.
Thanks,
Janet
