I want to start using my 1930 National Triolian (single cone, 12 fret neck) on stage again but don't want to be tied a mic on a stand. will be using both as a round neck and for lap/dobro applications with a nut raiser. The best sounding mic I ever used on the guitar in a live situation was a Shure Beta 87, the way it smoothed the highs was really buttery and sweet, caught a lot of the clunky nuance of the single cone in a very pleasing way and minimized and hissy-ness of the slide.
Anyone using horn clip on mics or some type of lavalier (sp?) mic? I would try some internal p/u too, but I don't want to cut the guitar up too much, ragged as it already is.

Hey Marc,
I use a Shure Beta 98H that I like alot. I clip it to the Sunrise cover on my 37 Dobro. Its a nice sound but I am no expert on such things.....

Marc, I mounted a Shure Beta 98/S directly into the coverplate on my reso. It required drilling one hole. Your post prompted me to get off my butt and post some pictures here. If you don't want to alter your vintage guitar, you could always pick up another coverplate to modify and set aside the original.

Hi Marc,
if you are looking for a pickup option without hurting your guitar, you might want to look at a pickup called "flatbucker".
It seems to be handmade from a guy in southern Germany and sticks to the guitar with double adhesive tape. He´s also selling them through ebay:

What mic model is that? All of the Beta 87s I have seen were handhelds.
