It's a long shot! Maybe someone has one still in their collections. Here is what one would look like. This is a shot from an echo chamber like the one I am rebuilding, I am missing the tape cartridge.

Wow. I have not seen one of those in a LONG time Ken! Might want to get the cartridge first before you invest time in the rebuild. I don't know where you would find one. Maybe you could make one out of an old metal RtoR tape reel. |

Ken, that looks like regular ΒΌ inch tape, the one I had back in 67' ( I bought it new in 67' ) what looked like a silver/metal tape, I don't remember what they called that kind of tape.
We used it with our PA for over a 2 years, 7 nights a week then it finally just quit, and no tech around here would touch it back then. It went in the junk pile.

They are pretty rare for sure. I just got an itch to make it work again!
May just have to do a tape loop and another pulley with a spring to tension it.
Would be great to find a tape. Almost bought the unit pictured off eBay. Just could not see bidding for it, though |

Ken, I had one of those about a hundred years ago, that had been adapted to use an Echoplex tape cartridge. I think those are still available from some of the vintage electronics places. It worked fine for the couple of years I had it. I found a genuine Echoplex, so I sold it. _________________ Darvin Willhoite

That might be what I end up doing. I have an old 8 track tape coming,. Going to play with that and and see if it could be used as well. |

Ken,
Many years ago, back in the '70s, I worked in a music store and the owner had one of these and used a regular 8 track tape and it adapted fine.
Back then, you could buy a new 8 track tape for a dollar, so he always had spares. _________________ Jack Shults

Ken, I know you're too young to know this, but the 4 track cartridge used a pinch roller from the deck to tension against the capstan, not one made into the tape cartridge like the 8 track. They both feed tape from the inside of the spool. Of course a 4 track cartridge is probably more rare than the one you really need. Bill A. Moore |
