Just bought a used Evans amp that is perfectly quiet unless the reverb knob is engaged. Does have a cause or fix for this?
thanks in advance,
Billy |

It could be a bad tank or cables, or maybe the tank was replaced with the wrong tank. Odds are it's some kind of connection or shielding problem between the amp and tank. Unplug and plug in the tank a few times. If that has no effect, you need a new tank...or a tech. |

What model Evans? Later models used a solid state reverb, not a mechanical tank. I had an SE-200 with the Emminence Delta Lite speaker and it had the solid state reverb (don't remember what year it was made but it was probably 2001/2). I didn't keep it long and sold it when I bought a new Nashville 1000. |

Jack, This is an older Fet 500 with a regular reverb tank. I can always use an external(Holy Grail) unit but was looking for possible fixes.
thanks,

Good tips above, but try this first---take the reverb tank out of the cabinet with the amp ON and humming and move the tank away from the amp and turn it different angles and see if it gets quiet. If it does get quiet, swap ends and put it back in.
I had the same problem with my Vibrosonic when I put it in a head cab. In my case, it was the reverb tank acting like an antena picking up the magnetic field, from being too close to the transformer, that messed mine up. Swaped it end for end, and it is now quiet as a church mouse, even testing it with volume at 10, and reverb at 10--perfect quiet now. That's the cheapest fix--if it's it.
I wanted to ad, I had a couple of amp techs tell me the transformer was too big(135 watt ultralinear), and I could never get the reverb tank in the same small cab with that transformer. Swapped ends and reinstalled it, and it works perfect. I wish all problems in life could be fixed that easy, huh? ![Cool](images/smiles/icon_cool.gif) |

James, Thanks for the tip, I'll try it. That could be part of the problem as these power transformers are big and the tank is mounted close.
thanks,

Billy: is it the short or long reverb pan?

Hi Derrell, I believe this to be the short tank mounted on the left side of the cab looking from the rear. I'll double ckeck this afternoon.
thanks,
