At first I didn't get what's different in it, then I realized that not everyone heard that at the tender age of 11 and grew up listening to Sun rockabilly Cool For guys like me around here, that was always THE version of Milkcow Blues! Shortly after we heard Eddie Cochran's:

I'm as big a fan of Elvis' and Eddy Cochran as anyone on the planet but I still prefer the old Bob Wills version........JH in Va.

I'm with Jussi - Elvis' was the first version I ever heard, so that's how the song went.

Ricky Nelson's take on it is worth a listen - not such a good vocal (needless to say!), but James Burton's solo is terrific! Check out the 7th and 8th measures where he holds an A at the 5th fret on the 1st string, a G at the 8th on the 2nd, and still manages a perfect whole-step bend on the 3rd string at the 7th while all three strings sustain throughout!

Are you sure it's the Bob Wills version, or is it the Johnnie Lee Wills version?
Bob's brother "Johnnie Lee" was the one who had the hit with "Milk Cow Blues", it was his signature song. Bob's version, at the time, was "Brain Cloudy Blues", except for the first verse it's the same song as "Milk Cow", and has one of the greatest guitar solos ever by Junior Barnard.

Alvin, you're probably right, it might have been Johnny Lee with vocals by Leon Huff. I think the vocal on "Brain Cloudy Blues" was Tommy Duncan....Thanks, JH in Va.

There both good ones, but I love that solo on "Brain Cloudy".
