There are a couple of cool licks in this break, I'd like to see how they are done (right) I wouldn't even need tab, just a description. Ist phrase over "Lone Star Beer" second phrase after "when I hear Faded Love I feel at home". Any help much appreciated,
Byron

Byron:

Herby Wallace did a whole backup course that included this song. Scotty has it listed on his web site. Also Crazy, My Window Faces the South, & Born to lose are included. There's some great C6th licks throughout this course. You get the intro, backup, solo, and ending from a great steel picker and instructor.

Cool

Yes, those 4 song E9 & C6 courses (intros, back up solos & endings) of Herby's are solid gold & very throrough. They are four to five pages per song. They are are HWP1 through HWP 10.

He also has many others which are quite helpful too including HWP 11 & HWP 300 which are E9 while HWP 11, 200 & 201 that are C6. Check them out.; much insight can be gained. steve t

Thanks guys, I have that course and yes it is a good course with lots of information but it does not have the couple of licks I'm interested in that are on the original recorded version. I've kind of figured it out, but like I said I'd be interested to see how to play them right.

Byron, whose version of the song are you listening too since that song was done by many groups? Can you post an MP3 or refer me to it on Youtube? If so, I'd try to find those elusive licks. steve t

Hi Steve, thanks for the response, the song was originally done by Red Steagall and had a very distictive solo. There is a version of it on Youtube that was recorded recently with Jim Loessburg on steel. Of course Jim has it nailed down. I don't know how to put a link to it here but it's the first thing that comes up if you put the song title in the search window.

OK, Byron, I'll give it a look this weekend. I'll be using the Jim Loessberg version then, correct? steve t

That's pretty standard C6. If you think you've got it, you probably have.

Yeah, there's a couple of chords in there that I always hear western swing players play, but I've never found them on my guitar!

b0b - You have to take these things in steps. Have you purchased your diamond horseshoe ring yet?

I don't have a clip of this cool solo by Sonny Garrish. But here's a stab at it from memory using Tabledit.

I dig that part where he goes into 7/8 time for a couple of bars. That should intrepidate some of the line dancers.

In bars 2 & 3, I see how it's done but I don't understand the logic behind it. It's over an E chord, and the top notes go E G A G E. I would never think of doing that.

Is this a standard jazz thing? The harmonies are A-D-G and B-E-A. I don't get it. What's the extended chord? E11#9?

Exactly right b0b, this is what was so vexing, seemingly simple and yet very hard to hear. Tri-tone subtitution? Anyway, once again Fred, I truly appreciate your trouble. The Forum is the greatest thing I know of.
