Steve Wariner,Live from Gilley's,1982-1984. steeler?

I recently bought two records of Steve Wariner,Live from Gilley's which are fanatstic!
They play songs they never recorded on the official records,I don't know if it's the same steel player on both records.
One the one from 1982,Steve yells something like"Bucky Baxter"before a fantastic steel solo.
The question is who is this Baxter or who toured those days with Steve Wariner?thnx!

That would have been the Bucky Baxter who went on to be an original member of Steve Earle and the Dukes (the "Guitar Town" and "Copperhead Road" era) a few years later, then spent many years playing with Bob Dylan, and then some time with Ryan Adams and the Cardinals.

Some pretty cool gigs, and a great musician!

Darvin, I believe you're thinking of Bucky Barrett, who used to play guitar at the St.Louis convention (like on the Emmons "Live" from '77 CD). He was Roy Orbison's guitar player for years... Anyway, different guy.

I recall a red headed youngster with Wariner at one of the Texas State Fair bandstands in Dallas in the early '80's. I asked his name before here on the forum but I can't find the thread and I forgot his name. Could this be the young man you're looking for?

Fred, the fellow you ask about may have been Scott Sanders who I believe worked for Steve before he took the job with Gene Watson.

If it was 82-84, it was most probably Alan Love. My band Texas Fever opened the show for Steve numerous occasions as he was always playing in Texas in those days and we were booked by the same agent at the time.

Allyn Love came after Bucky; Bucky was there in '82 for sure and maybe '83, I'm not sure when Allyn started but he was there a long, long time (and was band leader for most of the time).

Bucky sounds phenomenal together with Steve Wariner's excellent guitar playing!I wish I had more of these recordings!!thnx again.

Allyn Love started with Steve no earlier than late '85. I know this as I'd moved back here from Mpls. in Feb.'84, at which time Al told me that he had been here about 6 months. I remember that he was playing 4-5 nights a week with Bobby Green and band @ Tommy's Country Playhouse on Dickerson Rd., a job which they kept for maybe half of my first year back in Nashville. From there I believe Al went to work on the Opry with Jean Shepard, a job which he kept for at least 1 year and probably more.
