You can use the same tuning on your Silvertone if you like, just make sure to adjust the string gauges so you don't put too much tension on that old guitar.

All you need to do is raise the low C to C# and you're in business. Don

...thought I heard C6 was too tight for a round neck

ie, what are the recommended string gauges compared to standard lap steel

...I just realized, I'm not tuning to standard!...

Brian,

Stringing and tuning C6 properly on a steel or standard guitar will have less tension than standard guitar tuning.

-------

You ARE / WERE using the correct / standard C6:

Notes should be listed low to high horizontally just like you see them looking up at the nut (and by music theory / notation standards), as you first did correctly:
C E G A C E
6 5 4 3 2 1

....and high to low when listing vertical, just like you're looking down on your guitar neck.

On an old roundneck flattop guitar I would not start with anything heavier than a 012 for the high E and a 034 for the low C, don't want the bridge and/or neck heel to come loose...
