Looks like Carvin is now offering a 15" neodymium speaker. It's available in either 4 or 8 ohms and weighs 13.5 lbs. Most of their speakers are made to their specs by Eminence. They go for $99.99. Who wants to check one out ![Rolling Eyes](images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif) |

THIS is the only one (plus the 8 ohm) I'm seeing. Weighs 7.4 lbs.
Is that the one? Price is right enough to try but I'm always worried about "pro sound and bass guitar applications" even though that probably applies to a lot of high wattage instrument speakers. |

Yeah...that's the one. I just noticed it in a catalog that came in the mail yesterday. The frequency response listed is similar to other Eminence (as well as Jensen) 15" models.
I guess it's the 18" one that's the 13 pounder. |

That's about the same weight as the Delta Lite that Evans was (is) using in the SE-200. |

Hello Jay;
I have tried a couple of Neo speakers & just did not care for the sound BUT today i received my
Weber NeoMag speakers( 2 that are 15" ) ..They weigh in at 9 1/2 lbs each.I mounted them each into a
11 lb cab. Total weight in the cab is 20 & 1/2 lbs per cab LOADED.
I ordered them to be clones of the JBL D series.
I thought the Weber California was sorta close to the older JBL's but these new NeoMag's are even closer!!..Ted was kind enough to break them in for me so just had to mount them in cabs,hook the wires up & start playing..These would probably NOT suit the guys that love the Peavey Black Widow speakers as
they are brighter ( just like the older JBL's were )
You can't pump ungodly watts in them either BUT the good thing is with Weber speakers IF they do get blown ( i don't play that loud ) Ted will recone them for $25 each if they are Weber speakers -
considering that + the light weight & the JBL sound
I had to give them a try & i am sure glad i did..

I tried a Delta Lite with my Nashville 400, with the factory installed tone mod, and it improved the sound and I considered putting one in but it's the wrong impedance and I would have had to change the mounting screws as they were too short for the Eminence Delta Lite.
I sold the Nashville 400 shortly after that. |

Ron, I too am impressed with the Weber Neo 15. Our guitar player is currently using one and Ted has got it right. Very similar in sound to the D-130F in my Twin. They are a bit pricy but you get what you pay for - a lesson I learned all to well as I opted for the cheaper Jensen Neo 15. I tried the Jensen for a couple of weeks. This speaker is incredibly harsh with a spike right in the same fequency range as metal fingerpicks on strings - producing a constant "sizzling" sound. At the end of the two weeks I couldn't get it out of my Twin fast enough. Our guitar player tried out the Jensen for a couple of shows and the Weber proved vastly superior. Maybe with enough break in time the Jensen might soften up, but I would not recommend it. I'll be ordering a Weber Neo. |
