The jury's out on the distorted rock tone for this particular song but it's nice to see a young guitar guy appreciating these masters - players whom we steelers revere but who are not that well known to young musicians. Plus he figured out a neat way to include Speedy's obligatos.
D'oh! Here's the link:

Actually, I think he's using a fairly clean 'surf' sound here, it's just that his guitar is way too loud for the camera to handle, so it's the recording that's overdriven, not his guitar. _________________ "Play to express, not to impress"

The distortion (wherever it's coming from) kinda ruins the whole thing, for me. |

You're right, Steinar, sounds like the audio is just off the built-in camera mic. |

He's on the right track for the Jimmy Bryant sound: clean tone, no string bending, all picked notes and some pull-offs. No gimmicks, just good picking. Great job kid! All he needs now is a Fender single coil PU guitar. |
Agreed. That was great! I'd love to see the younger musicians get into some more hard core western swing and study guys like Bryant and Jimmy Wyble. I couldn't put together a swing band if I stood on my head and did the lindy hop because it's so rare to find anyone who knows how to play it. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/thedesertroseband |
