Some may remember I posted a picture and description of my first Emmons push-pull awhile back (http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=127335&highlight=). I just got it back today. It was refinished by Southbound Customs here in Nashville, and was cleaned up and reassembled by Clem Schmitz using the original parts with some factory knee levers from Emmons. The pickups are Tonealigners. It sounds great and plays wonderfully.

looks very pretty....if you're just gonna throw away the crappy old emmons pickups, i'll take them.

i dug the knee levers that came on your steel. did you change them?

I replaced the knee levers with LeGrande knees. They are much more efficient. I still have the pickups, and will probably have them rewound.

Maybe it's just my preference, but before you have the pickups rewound, why not try them unwound a bit, until they hit about 14K.

Kyle, Absolutely Stunning and Beautiful. It looks like a brand new guitar. I bet you're happy. Very nice color too! Cool

I'm getting mine back from a restoration on Monday so I'll be posting some pics soon too.

I am curious. How do the Tonealigners sound compared to the Original single coil Emmons pickups?

I've tried the originals, and they were very microphonic. When we measured them with a meter, the E9th registered right around 14 and the C6 didn't register at all (even though I know it worked). I wanted to try humbuckers, and they do a great job of pulling out the Emmons sound. Like I said, in the future I may try to get them performing better, but for now I'm giving the humbuckers a shot.

i always considered the 'emmons sound' to be related to their single coil pickups, so i find that interesting.
i've got two older emmons' and never had any concerns with the pickups...how do other people wear them out or whatever happens to them?

Kyle, The smile says it all... I can tell a happy guy when I see one!

Chris, I think what happens is the coating on the wire shrinks and it "loosen's up" and then it becomes microphonic. If it breaks it dies.
