The Prairie Home Companion radio show came to Ann Arbor last night and broadcast from the world famous Hill Auditorium.

I attended the live show.

Forumite Joe Savage was in the house band for the broadcast. Joe played pedal steel as well as resophonic guitar throughout the show. He did a beautiful job backing up Suzy Bogguss and local Michigan favorites 'The Milroys'. Joe really shined on Suzy Boguss' performance of 'Someday Soon' - beautiful touch and tone!

Thanks for the great music Joe and it was a pleasure spending a few moments chatting with you after the show.

I too particularly enjoyed, "Someday Soon." There seems to have been steel guitar on PHC almost every week lately (or at least every week I manage to tune in). But this is the first week I caught the name.

We listen to Midwest Country and the gang on RFD TV by Direct TV Satelite channel 379 each Saturday eve. at 9:00 here in Columbus, Indiana.

It is one of our favorite shows. We are so glad to be able to listen to good country music.

We think Joe does a great job on the Pedal Steel guitar and Resophonic lap steel.

Hey Gerald. Thanks, man. After all the rush to get out of there to catch my flight, the plane was delayed and I waited at the airport for 2 hours! Coulda hung around longer in town. At any rate, glad you could make it and I hope it was a decent seat.

That auditorium is really beautiful!

BTW, I was prepared to play the classic Emmons fill during the first verse, by Suzy wanted to keep it open with no fills at all.

I was a good show and Ann Arbor seems like a pretty happenin' town.

Have a good time at the Ukefest!

All the Best,

I caught part of the show too and enjoyed it; nice playing, Joe! My son is a student at U. Michigan and so we've been to the Hill Auditorium; great space for this.

Thanks Jim, I know that's one of "your" tunes. Wink

Maybe this is in the wrong section, though, considering I was playing mostly pedal steel.

Peace,

Moved to Steel Players from Steel Without Pedals. I'm sorry to say I didn't listen to the show yet myself, but I know the archive should be available online later this week.

Joe, you sounded really fantastic!

It seems you've been on there a few weeks in a row. Are you becoming a full time member of the band?

Joe played the show here in L.A. a week or 2 ago, and he was excellent.

His "Perennial Sideman" CD is excellent too. I've mentioned this so many times I'm beginning to sound like a broken record, but the CD really is that good.

Mike....Thanks again, man. Say hi to Al for me.

Stephan....I did three weeks in a row, I've got one more July 5th and then I'm doing the Rhubarb Tour in August. As far as being a regular member....it would be nice, but I'm not jumping to any conclusions like that. If they continue to call, I'll continue to show up!! Very Happy http://prairiehome.publicradio.org/programs/rhubarb/2008/

All the Best,

if Joe were a regular on PHC the show would hit new heights of excellence. Joe is top shelf on any instruments he decides to play.
