I ran across this song today and fell in love with it, it's on you-tube and it's call Please don't tell
me how the story ends. It's by Joan Osborne and it has Jerry Douglas on lap steel. Great stuff though some of her other music just wasn't me. |

Nice find, Joan sounding like Emylou on that one.
I always liked her but haven't heard anything from her for awhile, was wondering if she was still around.
Anybody recognize what JD is playing? |

That is his first Lap King Bel Aire, he has since gotten a second one, and perhaps more? The second one, as I recall, is sort of a beige/tan/pinkish color with black trim. _________________ Mark |

Strange that on the list of players there's no mention of steel or drums. It's a beautiful song beautifully done. |

This video is from last year's Transatlantic Sessions. A series made by the BBC in Scotland. This is the third series, the first two were in the late nineties.
Just print Transatlantic Sessions in You-Tube search and you'll find a veritable gold mine of new and older stuff. Jerry has been involved from the beginning and he and Aly Bain were the main musical arrangers on the latest series. I posted this clip on the Forum last year as `A Song Made Me Cry Today`. I have just watched again. Nothing has changed.

Archie,
I can't understand a single word she's singing but it comes out just beautifully. Russ Barenberg's in that clip as well. _________________ Steve |

new response more to the point of this thread... it's indeed a lovely, heartfelt performance and it shows what we already knew and commercial popular music has forgotten: how the steel guitar blends with the human voice so perfectly.

She's singing in Gaelic, but the song title kinda' gives the impression that it might just be a sad one. Russ has been there since the early days, too.
Here's another favourite of mine with Aly, Russ and Jerry;

She sings a killer version of Ragland Road (Dawning of the Day) on the Chieftains CD "Tears of Stone" |

I may have got a different video, but I understand every word Joan says. Just plain English.
