I have an early '60's Emmons pedal steel and the number 2390 is stamped under end plate on tuning key nut side. Also, approx. 1" to the right of this number is stamped the number 5, upside down.
Can anyone help me in identifying this marking?
Thanks,
Tom |

ES stands for "Emmons Stereo" and 130 is indeed the date that the e/p was stamped, but not necessarily when the guitar was built. It gets tricky dating some of these instruments as the e/p's were stamped when mounted on the intended body, and after that it couldve sat on a shelf in the basement until its final assembly which couldve been up to 6 mos. or more in some cases.
I own a bolt-on guitar very close in number to the instrument in question. I would estimate its year of production to be '66 as its an invoice number as well. However the original owner didnt purchase it until '68.
As for the "5" stamped on your e/p; Ive seen similar markings before on '65/'66 Emmons steels w/invoice #'s and can find no reason for them. Maybe its a part# or an employee# ?? |
