I've put Photoshop on my computer. Problem is now some files are marked with the photoshop icon, when they should not be.
I know there was a way to get into the system and configure what kind of files photoshop can use, but I've forgotten how to do it.
Anybody? |

The kinds of files Photoshop "can use" can be different from the ones your OS "associates" with Photoshop.
Use your OS Help utility, or Google "file type association" (no quotes) to learn how to change those settings for your OS. |

Ken;
Right-click on an image file that you don't wish to be associated with Photoshop anymore. One of the flyout options will be "Open with." Mouse-over "Open with" and a list of programs that can open the file type will flyout, with "Choose Program" at the bottom. Left click on "Choose Program." Find the application you prefer to associate with that file type in the list, or browse for it. Before saving your choice place a checkmark in the option box labeled "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file." Click OK and that file type will open in your preferred application until some other program decides to steal that association. Repeat the process anytime a file type is misappropriated. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

Thanks Wiz. I did that and it worked, of course.
It was a bit map that I set to open in paint. However, the icon didn't change. It's still a photoshop icon and I'd rather have something different. So...how do I change icons? |

Ken;
Glad you're back home and ok!
Right-click on the icon in question and left click on Properties (Windows PC). There should be three buttons in the lower middle of the Properties box, one of which is labeled Change Icon. Click on that button, then use the browse feature to locate the application that is going to open the file and search it's available icons. Select the icon you prefer, click Apply, then OK. Hit the F5 key on a blank area of your Windows desktop and the icon should get updated to your preferred icon.
You'll be good to go. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

As you can see, I clicked on the icon and then properties, but there is no change icon button. |
