This is my first pedal steel, a Pro II Custom serial #11338, the seller said it's mid-70's and was used by the steel player in the Marshall Tucker Band. I just figured out how to tune the pedals (by twisting the rods with my bare fingers- there has got to be a better way right!?) so it sounds better than when it first came, but the pedals are still squeaky and the knee levers feel loose, but I'm speaking from complete ignorance cause I don't even know how a pedal steel is supposed to feel. But if anything it sure looks COOL and sounds amazing coming through my Fender DeVille. All I know how to do is play a major chord then push the A pedal and arpeggio the minor chord and I swear I could do that for hours it sounds so nice.
ONE MORE THING: The knee-levers are all mixed up (usual LKL is RKL, etc.)and I want to learn with a very standard set-up, should I try to change them myself or should I have it done professionally? Also, does it look like a LKV would fit in there easily?

Bought July,1977 at the Sho-bud in Nashville. At the time it was a standard Emmons set-up.The blemish on the front is what made me recognize it,used to have a sticker of a confederate flag on the front.Won't go into details about why(had something to do with a girl) but when it was removed it left that spot!!Sold it in 84 to a gospel player here in SC.I'll try to attach a pic of the original warranty card!!
Me and that steel got a lot of miles and memories,if ya ever want to sell it,keep me address handy!!!!!AMAZING!!!!!!!!MADE MY DAY!!!!!THANKS!!Bari Smith _________________ SHO-BUD LDG(Cooperized),MULLEN RP SD-10,Webb 614E,'73 Vibrosonic,Mesa-Boogie Pre,Stewart 1.2,TC Electronic M-300,JBL's,Black Box,Walker Seats'84 Dobro,'69 Martin D-28,and assorted other goodies! |

HAHA OUTSTANDING!! That didn't take long!!! Yup, sent from Wick DeYoung in Greenville, South Carolina that's where it came from- wait a second you're not the Marshall Tucker steeler then are you?!? Yessir that little piece of belt leather has already saved me a few dings, one of those things you wonder who thought to put it there and never expect to really know! |

Nope, not me!!!Toy Caldwell was the ONLY steeler with the original MTB.I sat in a few times and that steel was used by Toy on some recordings. We were all best buds back then.Toy never claimed to be a steel player,he said"it was just fun!" I still see the remaining mambers all the time!He played an Emmons live(cause they gave him one) but preferred the sound if a Sho-Bud for records.I guess facts get foggy over the years.I know where that Emmons is,still in Spartanburg! That old Sho-Bud has a lot of history though, too much to scribble here!Glad you are happy with her,she was a good friend!I'll send ya a PM with my phone number if ya wanna know more.We can determine if the set-up is original. _________________ SHO-BUD LDG(Cooperized),MULLEN RP SD-10,Webb 614E,'73 Vibrosonic,Mesa-Boogie Pre,Stewart 1.2,TC Electronic M-300,JBL's,Black Box,Walker Seats'84 Dobro,'69 Martin D-28,and assorted other goodies! |

Looks to me like the set up is pretty standard Sho-bud set up.
a;b;c pedals standard emmons set up.
LKL raises 4&8 half tone
LKR raises 1&7 half tone
RKL lowers 4&8 half tone
RKR lowers 2nd a half and whole
Standard C6 pedals and RKL lowering 3rd half tone.
Pretty standard "The Pro~II custom" made around '76-'77.
Have fun with it.

Thanks for taking a look Ricky, after your diagnosis I realize now my knees are in fact rigged correctly . In that case I'm good to go- let the steelquest begin! |

Jeremy, the first narrow pedals were smooth. The ridges came a little later, towards the '80s. _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars
