I recently had the great pleasure of meeting Bobbe at his premises in Nashville. Not only is he a wonderfully interesting person in the flesh (so to speak  ), but he has made some telling recordings of steel guitar that are pushing the boundaries of recordings of the instrument.
I know that some players have used the steel guitar in recordings other than the perfunctory country and jazz, but his two recordings RHYTHMATIC and CURE FOR THE BLUES are top quality productions. My view is that Rhythmatic is unsurpassed in terms of both production and tone. It is a recording that gives realisation of the genres of music that the instrument is capable of, and should be in everyone's collection.
He also has the best sounding pedal steel guitar that I have heard for ages - a blue Emmons push pull. It is a players guitar, and hearing Doug Jernigan and Terry Crisp playing it in Bobbe's shop was an experience to behold. Both are great players along with Mr Seymour himself.
Just as an aside, I attended the Dallas Steel Guitar Show, and I counted the number Pick Me Up On Your Way Down played at least 15 times throughout the show. Other tunes were similarly overplayed. It may be time that we all look at our repertoires and put some variation into them. |

Well, in this case the difference is that one is spelled correctly and the other isn't.

Ken, I totally agree. Don't get me wrong - I'm fine with hearing "Pick Me Up On Your Way Down", but it's nice to hear a range.
If you're not familiar with Bobbe's work, you should go to his website http://www.steelguitar.net/ and click on the link "Click Here To Listen To Steel Guitar Music Streaming 24 Hours A Day!" I've had this on all evening while working, as I often do, and it's just great. It's steel-guitar centered, but the styles are all over the place and great. Great production and great playing. You wanna make a believer out of the skeptics, get 'em to listen to this for a few days. Tonight it's sort of like having Henry Mancini's band with a steel guitar at the center. You need to listen for a while to get an idea of the stylistic breadth. |

Yep - it wants to know what application you want to use to play back the music stream. I use Windows Media Player on Windows XP.
Once you know what the right application is for your system, you can just click the box telling it to remember that choice. |

Roger, you are correct. According to the spell checker in Word, it's spelled d-i-l-e-m-m-a. That's one of my long standing brain defects that just won't take correction.
I think it goes back to math class and all that Fundamental Lemma stuff. Maybe use dilemmings as a pneumonic? |

but he's NEVER mentioned this wonderful site!
For those Forumites that have complained about not being able to hear any good steel guitar music any more, or that steel guitar was dying.
Bobbe's site is FABULOUS! Am enjoying it at this very moment. What great music; what great selections! |
