Notwithstanding the latest earthshaking Steel Guitar news in Bobbe’s latest Newsletter: Steel Players, Traditional Country Music; there was another major, Ummm, say, after shock announcement in this very same edition. Shocked

Formally stated & quietly residing at the bottom of Bobbe’s latest is another shock wave: Ta, Ta…….

Quote:
“ We are proud to announce the fact that we have the great Terry Crisp working with us in our new repair/restoration facility. Between myself,
Terry, Vic Lawson and Danny Bentley, no job is too big for us. Terry is off the road and had a wonderful career, ten years with Reba, six years
with Ricky Skaggs, several years with Joe Nichols and so many other number one selling artists. Terry is originally from a great country music family from Charlotte, North Carolina. It seems like his expertise under a steel is as good as it is on top playing it.”

Wow!! Bobbe’s Crew at Steel Guitar Nashville is already outstanding and top notch! So what does he do? Bobbe makes a major coup and brings in Terry Crisp……. What? I had to read it again……..IMHO: Now, this is an even more of powerful and dynamic organization Brother Bobster has set up.

At the very least, Mr. Seymour should get the “Owner/Manager/Player” award of the year for this move. To Wit:

My steel guitar buddy, Ron Victoria, and I are sitting at the Connecticut PSG Assoc. show last November, when an announcement comes in “that due to an illness, a headliner would be replaced by a young guy, Uhhhh, by the name of Terry Crisp!”

Neither Ron nor I knew the name, but what do we know? We’re open and conciliatory. Fair enough! We’re not at the center of the Steel Guitar world at BNA (Nashville). Heck, we’re out here at the edge of the earth, eh?

Well, we watch him set up…he starts to play……..after about a minute of scrutiny, we/I are blown away……..could not believe what I’m hearing… and from this unknown to us. Wow!! So, Mr. Crisp finishes the number, gets an enthusiastic applause, says he drove out East to get here, etc. Uhhh, Dedication? You Bet!

Now I’m thinking that’s one… OK,let's see what he does next, so he gets into “Danny Boy” and just brought the house down, standing ovation, the whole deal.

Why you ask? He’s playing this Blue Derby PSG, the tone of which, he puts out and along with really tasty licks was to die for. And then, one after another, he nails it!! He stole the show. And uhhh, like he’s real quiet, unassuming, appreciative and frankly, I don’t think he realized what he had just done……Brought the house down, he did.

Me thinks Terry also has a disarming sense of humor as well. And with Bobbe, well what can you expect?

Now, I/we got in a long line to buy some of the few CD’s he brought with him. Even though I did not get one with Terry's rendition of "Danny Boy" I feel I got lucky. Get this one, you will love it: Terry Crisp: “Paid In Full”, Track 6: “Tune 88 & Track 7: Funky Chittins” will knock you out along with the others the CD.

Bobbe, nice going……..you did well getting Terry in with your House of uhhh?(no words to describe it). Whoa! I know it’s going to be a whole lot of even more fun at your place with your crew.

We hope to fly in one of these days……”there’s a whole lot of shaking” going on Steel Guitar Nashville. “No Job is to big for us”?….Bold words they be. And we know they will stand. Best to all of you!! Very Happy TX

Rgds,

Ron

Ron,
Did you notice how Terry had his foot on his volume pedal? Only seen one other do it like that..Russ Hicks. Terry was in Saluda in Feb. and really "showed out".

Bill,

Right, we sure did notice it.

And I remember telling my Steel Buddy, Ron Victoria, how amazed I was about Terry’s volume control technique during the show.

Terry Crisp gets such a sweet and expressive tone from that Derby PSG, I purposely watched what he was doing with the pedal volume control.

Gheezz, I don't want to embarrass the guy, but I do think this soulful sound Terry has is as close to Jimmy Day as I have ever heard.

It is a very unique tone and I'm convinced a lot of it comes from Terry’s great volume control work and of course, with his rig setup, and playing technique.

You can hear this expression on his CD quite well. Like I said, Terry Crisp really impressed everybody at the Connecticut PSG Association Show.

And just look at that resume……so now he’s going to be corrupted by the Bobster,eh?…….Juss kidding!!! Wink

Man, that is one great crew at Steel Guitar Nashville. Looking for some very exciting and positive stuff coming out of there!! TX

Rgds,

Ron

Terry has put in a week and a half here now and I must say, his skills at repairing steel guitars are as good as playing them. However, we do waste a lot of time showing off to each other and playing one guitar after another, but this is fun and makes the time go faster.

As most of you know, I also have the great Joe Diffie steel player working for me, Vic Lawson, he has been working with us at Steel Guitar Nashville for several years, on and off, depending on how the playing season is going.

And of course, Danny Bentley, Steel guitarist for Ken Mellen,,,, of great country music recording fame,, is my store Mgr.

So just remember, when you deal with Steel Guitar Nashville, you are helping a starving steel player!

Keep those cards and letters coming, well, that old clock on the wall says we better get out of here, remember, don't drive and drink, alcohol and gasoline don't mix,(well, they do but they taste awful) the life you save could be mine, don't forget your bartenders and waitresses, and last but not least remember, you don't have to go home but you can't stay here, -------------->and so on.

Thank you guys, yep, some of the starving steel players drink also,

I must say, I have had some great employees in the past, but I have never had so many great ones at one time before!

We also have a new bookkeeper-office Mgr. that we are all very happy with, she may be very country in her speach but she is very smart and is another typical "Blonde terrorist" when serving the great customers we have. Her name should be "Hilarious".
But instead, she prefers to be called "Mechell".

So, we have Danny the overworker, Terry the tech., the "Blond terrorist", Jill the organizer, Minnie the moocher, Doodels the publisher and me , Mr. Wonderful (I named me)
Larry the cybornet guy, behind the scenes but responsible for all printed material and the web-net, promotion etc.

Bobbster the Prez.
