A super time was had by all! Everyone played truly great but there were some "early", younger players that had improved dramatically! Robert Rogers was my big suprise! Played great and I feel will be a tough act to follow very quickly. Pete Burak is playing very well and many folks remarked how great he is doing and I feel that he will be a great monster very soon. A nicer guy there isn't. Hal was his typical tremendous self , WOW! He has never played badly! A true vicious, total killer of the steel guitar is the ever popular , Doug Jernigan! From hard jazz to pure bluegrass,
this guy has proven that steel guitar has no boundrys. Every one was great and the facility was un believable! Barry, this is the greatest! As are you and the Mrs.
I can't mention every one here and this is a shame as all the greats were on their best behavior! Mike Sweeney,John,Jr.K.,Herby, Bill Ferguson,Larry S,------------Well take my word for it, It was to great to even discribe, Special thanks to Jeff Peterson,Vic Lawson,Larry Dever for being my great pitcrew and running the Steel guitar Nashville sales area. Chris Donner(Chris Crowbaugh), thanks for the Diovan!
Yes Jim smith, I did play my TWO knee lever setup, where were you?
Anyone there want to add anything to this thread? I'm sure we all had fun, Thanks Barry G.!!!!

Absolutely, Bobbe,
Incredible sound. Beautiful playing, and the fact that all my heroes are more than accesible. They love to talk as much as I do. Thanks to all the fine musicians and a special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Barry Gilreath. I hope this reunion continues for many years to come. I managed to come away with a truckload of goodies, too.
One other word. My 14 year old son was with me, and while he doesn't really care for my kind of music(yet), he was very excited that both Herby Wallace and John Hughey took time to speak with him. I believe he will be a convert sooner or later.
Looking forward to next year...Pat

I really enjoyed the show. I was greatly impressed by Mike Bagwells playing. I'll be sure not to miss his set if he ever plays any other shows. It was my first time to ever hear him. Every one played well and I got to hear all of my idols. I'm also glad it was a week or so later this year. The weather was warm and the trees were in bloom.

Mike Sigler, I went to bed last night and woke up at 3:00 in the morning thinking about how great you played and how rough you are to follow, at least you followed me on the last show. I just can't remember everyone at the same time, I know I forgot to mention several great players and their performances but everything was so good, it's still just a blurrrrrrrr! I know I'll think of more later, I would like to mention Bill Ferguson once more for working so hard to make everything sound so good! What a guy! I didn't use my distortion either, I didn't destroy anything, anywhere,(this time).

Great show, great playing. Just a first class effort by Barry and the staff and I believe that includes Herby Wallace as Barry's chief consultant. I liked the location (the old train terminal) and I need to take the family there some time. The boys like trains and there are plenty of real train cars for people to stay in. What a great idea.

A real pleasant surprise is that Doug has re-released his two gospel recordings on CD. They are two of the best gospel steel guitar recordings of all time. I had forgotten just how good the one is that Doug recorded in 1983.

Several players played Emmons push-pulls and all sounded tremendous: Sasser, Seymour, Sweeney, Bagwell, and some others I am probably leaving out.

Bobbe's 1971 Emmons push-pull had only two knee levers hanging down. Scotty verified it for us!

Mike Bagwell put on another great show. This guy is the best kept secret in the world of steel guitar and his friend, Chris Payne, flat out tears up that Telecaster like nobody's business. BTW, Chris used a Fender Cybertwin and said he dialed in a 62 black face twin for his sound.

There was simply a lot of great music those two days. A whole lot more could be said.

Just want to add my thanks to Barry and Judy Gilreath for inviting me back to perform again this year. I really enjoyed the show: first class all the way. Anytime I get to perform with guys like Caldwell, Rosetta, Brogden and Queen is a special day for me! Thanks to all the great players and a special thanks to Herby Wallace for his vote of confidence in me.

Yes this was a fantastic show!!!!
I want to thank Barry and Judy for allowing me to become their "staff" sound man for this show and the "Peach State Jamboree". You are both wonderful to work with. One unsung hero is Mike Frost (Barry & Judy's son-in-law). Mike worked his tail end off helping me unload, load and set up the sound system. Plus he handled all stage setups.
THANK YOU Mike. See ya in Dalton.

To Bobbe, thank you for stopping by the booth and for the kind words. They mean more than you know.

Thank you Billy Phelps for covering the sound while I tuned up and played.

To each and everyone that attended the show, thank you. You made it a success.

I would only rate this show 2nd. to St. Louis. First class all the way.

Now Barry, what's the date for next year.

My sincere thanks!
Bill Ferguson

I too had a wonderful time and was happy to meet several of the forumites. I have to thank Mike Sigler for throwing me a few bones in the Fulakwa room .... as Bobbe said following him is a nightmare, and lord knows I'm nowhere near the picker Bobbe is.

Other points of note for me, Jow Wright invited me to join him for breakfast as he got a table first, and I'll be darned if Hal Rugg didn't join us! Now I truely know it's better to be lucky than good! What an enlightening hour that was.

WOW....what a great show. Hat's off to Barry and his lovely wife Judy and family for organizing and producing an absolutely super show. All of the invited players were superb to say the least. What a pleasure it was to work with this fine group of talented steel guitarist. I agree with Bobbe (Sizemore) about young Robert Rogers. This young man is going to be one of the "top guns" of the steel guitar world. A great big "thank you" must also go out to Bill Ferguson for doing such a great job with the sound system. He made the room, the players and those of us in the staff band sound superb.
Thanks again to Barry, Judy and family for a great time in Chattanooga, we are already looking forward to next year.

I agree with what everyone else has said here about the Choo-Choo show. It was very professionally done, and one of the best shows I've ever had the pleasure of playing. Bill Ferguson did a wonderful job on the sound, and Barry and Judy really out done themselves for this one. First-Class all the way! I was honored to be invited back to play again next year, and I'm already looking forward to it.

A very special thank you to Herby Wallace for his support, and thanks to everyone who I had the pleasure of visiting with. I am extremely honored to play this show, and I look forward to seeing everybody again next year in Chattanooga, and at upcoming events still to come this year.

Dido from the Grouchyvet. IT WAS STEEL GUITAR HEAVEN. The Choo Choo City "Motel" was an excelent venue..The only down side was that the Falwaka(?) Room was much bigger than the closet that the Carter Room was in. And some of you know that I was showing off my New Baby Blue Carter D12. (Now I have to learn how to Play it)I almost had to hire a tuck to bring back all of the Tapes,CD's, Hats and Tee shirts That I bought. The Super Jam On Friday was Mind Tingling. So was the rest of it .Sound and video was superb thanks to Bill and His staff. The staff Band..what can I say. These guys can play ANYTHING!!!!!!! Thanks to those that exspresed thier condolences to me.Nick,Mike, Bobbe,Billy and the rest and thanks Billy for let me Tinker with "Baby Blue"
I think next year I'll try to get a sleeper car. They are closer!!

Great show. Hats off to Barry. What a great player Mike Sigler is. I had not heard him before this show. Top notch in my book. Mike Bagwell is another player I had not heard before what a picker. All the players were top notch and put on a good show. The only negative thing I could find was the three mile walk from the ball room to my room in building three,oh my acking feet. Next year we need one of the golf carts to takes back to building three or one of the hourse and bugges I saw running around town. What about that back up band. They played their finger off. Great job Barry!

I just want to add that the bar has been raised for all steel shows with respect to the closed circuit video of the steelers hands. This is the greatest!!!
IMHO, All steel shows should adapt this technology as standard operating procedure.

On an interesting side note...
Bobbe Seymore was wearing a black blazer, and this created an illusion on the video screen such that all you could see was his fretboard and two hands flying around playing the tar out of the steel!
Remember The Addams Family TV show?...
It looked like "Thing" (the severed hand that lived in a box and dialed the telephone and other funny stuff) was playing the steel!!!
A very entertaining illusion (from this steelers perspective)!

Bob, so you will know for next year. All you had to do was call the front desk and they would have sent one of the carts to pick you up, no charge.

The family of steel guitar is truly a wonderful association. Thanks to all of you who have called and written messages on the Forum. We are beginning to plan for 2003. Our staff already sees where some improvements can be made and look forward to the challenge of an even better show. Each and every player was outstanding including the Reunion band which has to be the best in the nation.
My good friend Bill Ferguson proved once again his master touch on sound production. His work along with those who assisted him was a vital part of the success of the show. I feel our show will have a long association with the Chattanooga Choo Choo complex. Some details will be announced within the next few weeks about next year's show. Feel free to send me comments both positive and negative where you think improvements can be made. Obviously there are several great players who could be added who would be an assest to the show but as you know the schedule limits the number that can be invited. A few new players were on this past show and a few names may be possible for next year.
Again, thanks to all of you who traveled all over the US and Canada to be at our Reunion. Like many others, I am now motivated more than ever to practice my steel and aspire to the great playing of the pros. Keep on steeling. Look forward to seeing you soon. Is it good ediquett to count a persons knee levers while he's playing? And if so, how close should you stay away whilst doing so?
Is it bad to get down on your hands and knees while doing so? If it is acceptable, under what circumstances is it acceptable?
