Every time I come home this is what I find:
I recently gave my daughter these kittens, and their favorite sleeping place is on top of my pedal steel guitar. They're cute and sweet, but I kind of wish they'd find somewhere else to sleep. Anyone got any suggestions? I am not about to start spraying them with the water bottle while they're perched on my guitar!
Meow,
Cliff |

I am a cat owner but dont have the problem you have. I have been told by other owners that cats do not like the smell of citrus and people use that to keep them from clawing up their furniture. You might try taking your cover and spraying it with a citrus scent and see if that works. Worth a shot anyway.

a pea-shooter should help convince them to seek other lodgings. |

I like cats, too. They're a little more tender than dog. |

My cats love my pac-a-seat. When I'm gettin' ready for a steel show, they'll come into my bedroom and rub on the legs of my steel before it gets packed up for shows. One of my cats jumped on my Peavey Nashville 112 when I first got it, but they don't jump on my steel and sometimes they like to sleep on my bed and when I start playin' the steel, it don't bother them. They must really like my steel playin'-haha.I love my pedal steel guitar and my two cats and both of my cats love to rub or jump on top of my steel guitar case with my steel inside it.

That's why you have a cover. |

I would try leaving the cover off the steel for a few days and maybe they would get out of the habit. Larry |

Move the steel away from the window, they think it's the back of a couch. Very natural place for Cats and dogs to perch.
Have a ledge built right under the window and above the steel. Put a little padding on it and they wouldn't care less if the steel existed or not.
You could use "cat hair" as an excuse for twangy cords or missed cords. I've not heard that one.

A Rotweiller!
You can probably buy a spray at the local pet store which will leave a scent that the cats do not like.
I have heard that cats do'nt like the smell of oranges, try rubbing some orange peel on the cover.
Best regards

Thanks for all of these suggestions. I'll keep you posted! They were doing the same thing when the guitar was in another room, and seem to really like laying along the strings and between the necks. I guess they're Nashville Cats |

PS: I'm remodeling, and now have a 6 foot step ladder set up in the living room. The preferred spot is now at the top of the ladder. Seems they're more interested in controlling the high ground! Typical! |

Put some party hats or something else lightweight on top of your cover that the cats won't want to sit on. The triangular Fed Ex bax in the last picture would be perfect to keep them off. I have 2 cays, but the've never sat on my steel, because I always play Hound Dog on it before I put the cover back on. |

That Priority Mail box is from Coop. It's a collectable! Not only that, but I'd have to put a couple bricks in it to keep them from just pushing it out of their way! |

Lay a banjo or accordion close to it. If they still hang around...get rid of the cats |

Here's my cat Lilly. There isn't a bigger steel guitar fan than her!! As soon as I start playing she's up here as seen. Once I forgot to cover my steel up when I went out. When I returned my thumb pick and one finger pick were on the floor. Took me ages to find the other pick, it was in another room under the bed!!
