Hi there fellow steel players

I am trying to locate the following guitar, I bought it new in 1977 from Eric Snowball and had to sell about 1980/81, as I had no money

Emmons ST 10 in green, in the Uk we were told it was a Loafer its serial on the Emmons card is Emmons ST 10 # 135 ST, does anybody know where its at, I'd love to have it back

Slim Pickens had an Emmons Loafer around that time - you could try him. I don't think he has it any more, but if it was your one he may be able to point you in the right direction.

Was it laquer or formica ?

In the early nineties I set up a green laquer push-pull Emmons that was then owned by a steel player from the south of England, Maurie Newman.

Richard

It was green laquer push pull, are you still in touch with Maurie?

Maurie is a good friend and doesn't live a million miles from me if you need any help.

Eddie, I think you sold this guitar to a player called Phil Kerry. He still had this steel about 20 years ago. I think I might be able to track him down for you. I think he's still living just south of Grantham, and it's quite likely he still has it, as he's not one to part with instruments.
email me at dave.pedal@ntlworld.com and I think I might be able to find a photo of it for you.
It was a lovely steel although I recall the laquer had started to 'craze' even back then.
Dave.

Hi there everyone

Good news and Bad news.

Here is the Good News. After the last post from Dave I managed to track down the person who had bought the Emmons he lives about 50 miles away, as soon as he saw me he knew who I was and can remember buying the Emmons.

The Bad news.He was sorry to tell me it was burnt to toast and melted metal in a house fire.

Well at least I got a conclusive result even if it was not the one I wanted, I want to thank everyone for their input

Regards

Eddie

Eddie, I'm sorry to hear about the outcome of your Emmons. Its a shame the guy didn't know Dave Langdon who answered your enquiry. The very same thing happened to my Sho-Bud universal in a dreadfull house fire. Dave took over a year, but he restored it to an unbelievable axe. If you missed the "before and after" thread, e'mail me and I'll send it on to you. Dave is a craftsman with a capital "C"

Mickey, Phil was an old pal of mine and I pointed out to Eddie where he lived etc.
Unfortunately, I think it was too far gone and Phil Kerry hasn't seen me in over 20 years, so I doubt very much if he thought it could be rescued.
I have just found an old record of Phil's band 'Rhythm of the Road' with him playing that steel on it and Basil has posted one of my old pics of it in the steel players section.

Hi there Micky & Dave
Micky thank you for the kind words, I hope one day we may be able to meet, I have always known of you from the early 70's as being a top pro player, you have been blessed with being able to do what you want to do in which to earn a living.
Dave thanks for giving me the info to track down Phil, his words were " I don't think I was a very good custodian of your Emmons" I can't disagree with that but things happen most times out of one's own control hence they call it an accident, but at least I got a conclusion.
Best regards to you both and everyone else who responded
Eddie
