I received a new D-10 hybrid ZumSteel from Bruce a week or so ago. I really like the guitar and the tone I get from it.
The hybrid changers are a step in the direction of the old Emmons push/pulls.
Upon closer inspection, I discovered that they have something else in common.
Some steelers claim that the best sounding p/p was the "wraparound". I looked at the necks on my Zum and, lo and behold, they were "wraparound"!
Hum, makes a person wonder if there's something to it. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

Paddy,
I don't have any pictures of it yet but it looks just like the one Buddy Emmons plays.
It's black with pearl strips on the front.
I was undecided as to color when I ordered it about a year and a half ago but decided on basic black.
You know what they say about black guitars! ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

I absolutely just love this guitar. It has TT 17,500 pic ups. I swear it will shake the floor with the bass response. The top end sparkles like jewels.

Erv,
The black with white strips is my favorite Zum guitar! I saw one like that up close in St Louis and the contrast between the black and white make both colors standout. It has an awesome contemporary look to it much like the original Emmons PP but updated. I'd like to see pics of yours also!

Paddy, at home I concentrate here:

Having said all this, Wayne's new geeeTar is a looker and from what I've been told; tone that rocks Wayne's world, yep yep, he calls me at least twice a week to remind me Its like a stork just flew over his home and drop off a baby...baby Zum

Greg,
Yes, it has a real "classic" look.
I'm kind of afraid to post a picture of it. I put different fret boards on it.
If you think a black ZumSteel looks good, you should see one with Fessenden fretboards!
You wouldn't believe how nice it looks with Jerry's longhorn fretboards with the red and white fretmarkers. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

I don't know, I think that second one of Gary Lees is a real winner to my taste. I've never owned a Zum but a bunch of Emmons p/p's and if it's close to that tone, I'd have one for sure. I always thought the wraparound has a thinner tone to it that the others. The best one I ever heard is a cut tail and I own it right now. |

Erv, What kind of necks do you have on your new Zum, wooden or aluminum. Also, what brand of PUPS are you using and what is the ohmage of the windings. Erv, now that you have about 20 steels please tell us which one you like the best..you can be our quality control man...wishing you the best.
Your friend,
Brad |

Gary very nice mate ....your house is starting to look like my house -- over run with Zums !! .. I am looking forward to picking my new Hybrid up from Bruce in Dallas ...my other 2 have BL710/910's but Bruce has convinced me I should try out TrueTones on the new guitar -- my 2 current guitars are standard all-pulls so it will be interesting to compare them to the Hybrid. |

Brad I believe the aluminum necks are standard for the Zum. I have True-tones on mine. Both necks are wound at 18. Using the Black Box I can usually tone in to whatever room I play. |

Brad,
My guitar looks just like Manfred's except for the Fessenden fretboards.
A mica body w/metal necks is standard for a Zum.
With the backlog that Bruce has at present I'm sure it would be hard to get anything different.
I don't know what my pickups are wound to. I just asked Bruce to put on TruTone pickups and that's what he did. I'm sure he and Jerry have gotten their heads together on what sounds best on a Zum.
As of this writing, I have TruTones on the following guitars: ZumSteel, Rains, Williams and Fulawaka.
They all sound good! ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

Evr, It is easy to measure the ohmage of your pickups. On the cord coming out of your Guitar jack put one lead on the tip of the plug and the other lead on the round part of the plug below the carbon separater. I thought my PUP on my Williams was 18K but when I measured it, it measured 19K. When I asked Bill about it he said that there can be a 5% difference...I like the sound of my 19K...it has bite to it. |
