After reading the "Whats in your CD player" topic, I was going through some old CDs that I hadn't listened to in a while, and I ran across one that I had made years ago with tunes that were popular on the radio at one time or another with what I think are good or interesting steel parts. One of the songs I included was one that I remember as a kid and was lucky enough to find a copy of, but I'm not completely sure of the title or artist. I think the singer was Lionel Cartright and the title is "In my eyes" but I'm not for sure. The steel part has neat counterpoint and great tone; I've always liked it, even before I knew what pedal steel was. Can anyone name the player or does this song ring a bell with anyone else? |

This is interesting - I've heard that song before too. Never had the CD though. I still remember it due to the hauntingly beautiful steel playing on it. I believe the steel playing is Paul Franklin. The playing is certainly different than anything we hear on the radio today. I'd buy the entire CD just to get my hands on that one song. Lionel Cartright sounds familiar, but I'm not 100% sure. _________________ Steeless. |

Be careful though, apparently through some form of record deal change or something, the only version that I have been able to find for sale has been a re-recorded version with out the steel part that I have been talking about. Its funny how something like this gets stuck in your head for this many years. Still a favorite of mine though. |

I know what you mean. I bought an album Touch My
Heart/Burning memories.
I wanted Soft Rain played by Jimmy Day.
Every song has been dubbed over with orchestra
music.
I finally found an original later on. I dont know
where, but there is no comparison. |

Charles, I cannot say for sure if it is the same guy, but it probably is. While snooping around the internet trying to find the answer to my question, I found a biography for Lionel Cartwright and it mentioned that he had done some TV work and also that he played ten or more different instruments (probably not at the same time though.) I also learned that this song was on his first self titled album and that it was released in 1989. I would have guessed that it was longer ago than that. Time flies you know. Thanks much for your responces everyone. |
