Could someone tell me who the steel guitar player is in that band . He sure has a great sound and is a excellent steel player. It sure made that type of music sound better.I can't put my finger on the type of music they play. From what I could see it looked like our good freind shhh Bobbe Seymour or is he not that good looking.Just kidding Bobbe.

Smiley,I guess you and I are idiots. Our union directory shows his last name as Grisham.
Chip,I guess your last name would be Phausa?
I've know Doyle since 1967 and even I forgot how to spell his last name.

Earl,
I could be wrong on this one, but I wore
out the 1st 2 Buffet LP's cause I loved it and the steel so much and kept reading the album notes over and over, and I swear Doyle's last name is spelt with an 'e'.

If this thread continues, I'll go and dig
the album[s] out. No easy task. They are buried somewhere.

Well, I just dug out Buffet's "A White Sport
Coat and A Pink Carnation", the original LP.

Listed on the back in the lower left hand corner are:

The Coral Reefers:
Jimmy - Acoustic Rhythm Guitar
Steve Goodman - Acoustic Lead guitar
Reggie Young - Electric Lead Guitar
Doyle Gresham - Pedal Steel Guitar
Ed "Lump" Williams - Bass Guitar
Mike Utley - Piano
Greg "Fingers" Taylor - Harmonica
Sammy Creason - Drums
Phil Royster - Congas
Shane Keester - Moog Synthesizer
Vassar Clements - Fiddle
Ferrell Morris - Percussion
Marvin Gardens - Maracas and Beer Cans

The spelling of these names is exactly as it appears on the LP. Unless the LP has a misprint of Doyle's last name, this [and Buffet's 2nd LP] are the only sources I have as to who he is and the spelling of his name.

Check out the LP. The date on it is 1973.

Chip,
The last time I played on a session for Doyle (about a month ago), he spelled his name "Grisham" on the check.
Record labels often misspell players' names on the credits---I speak from personal experience.

Gentleman, Gentleman please don't get in a argument over how to spell a name it's not worth it.I did'nt put this on the forum to get a fight going. All I wanted to know is who the great steel player was. I don't care how you spell his name it really doe'st matter.Smiley you done a fantastic job playing at the Mass. Bash Incredable now I may have spelled that wrong and if I did I don't even care because everyone knows what I meant. Thanks to all that responded.

Sam,
I don't think anyone's fighting. It is a moot point, I suppose. Actually, I just wanted to see if I was starting to get one of those senior moments I've been hearing about.

Chip, I think the person that wrote the liner notes on the album was the cause of your false senior moments.

Yes I can clear this up, he's a friend of ours It's GRESHAM. And just in case you need to know, he has a brother named Shorty GRESHAM who is also very very talented in every way on a number of instruments and sings the best Ray Price you'll ever hear.

Jeff,
This is getting hilarious! I have a call into Doyle and Debbie right now. I hope to hear from one of them this evening with the "final answer", although I fear there will still be some unbelievers. By the way, tell Shorty I said "hello." I, and to a greater extent, Earl Erb played in bands around the Harker Heights, Temple,Lake Belton area with Shorty in the late '60s. At that time, he spelled his name with an "eye."

Thanks Gregg, this is not hilarious this is nuts.Gregg and I were both at Ft.Hood in 1966-68 and I played in the same band, for almost 2 yrs. that Shorty did in Harker Heights at a club called the Western Room right on the main highway to the Hood.I used to go home with Shorty on the weekends when I wasn't pulling special duty.I met Doyle with an "i" Grisham when he was still in the Navy.Doyle has a email address but I don't think he is a member of the forum. He did tell me once that he did read the posts on the forum.DOYLE PLEASE HELP US!
