I know he's got some huge fans here. What can you tell me about Leon?
some great footage on youtube:

what's he up to these days? any good recordings someone can recommend besides the stuff with Ernest and the Troubs?
I've got a live Osborne Bros album with Leon's flat-top and Hal Rugg on steel.
such an amazing, underrated player. _________________ 1965 Emmons S-10, 3x5 • Emmons LLIII D-10, 10x12 • JCH D-10, 10x12 • Beard MA-8 • Oahu Tonemaster |

That's a good question, Scott - one I've asked several times before myself. Apparently, if anybody knows anything about Leon, they're keeping it to themselves .... ![Muttering](images/smiles/icon_aside.gif) |

He stills play on the Opry pretty regularly, though he's no longer in the "house band" (as he should be!). He's on a lot of the Osborne Brothers stuff from the late 60's and early 70's; there's a "Bear Family" 4 CD box set that covers that period and Leon and Hal Rugg are all over it.
The DVDs of the old Ernest Tubb TV shows are a must if you're seriously into Leon (and of course the great Buddy Charleton). |

What a great video.. I wasn't sure who was playing steel until I watched the close up of his hands.. the way he checks his picks between licks, the way he holds the bar.. Buddy C still has it! _________________ Bo Borland

Leon works the Midnight Jamboree with various artists. He gets a great, fat sound with that guitar. Here he is at the Texas Troubadour reunion with Buddy and Steve Chapman a few months back.
