A friend of mine brought back to Australia a home video he took in nasville of a steel player named Danny Dunn it was one of the most exciting things I've seen.A great player.I found on the web some time ago that he taught in detroit and there is mention of him in another thread on the forum but was wondering if there was any other footage, cds or information on Danny as I would like to see and here more. |

Ben, Danny Dunn was a good friend of mine, and he played at a lot of the local honkey tonks and bars around the Detroit area, and a few local recording sessions here and there. Danny had a great style, and some of the best tone I've ever heard in my life! I haven't heard from him in many years now, but I can definately relate to your enjoyment of listening to him play. In my opinion, I think he deserved a lot more recognition than what he got in this industry as he was truly one of the best of the best in my opinion.
If you happen to hear from him sometime, please tell him Danny Hullihen would love to see and talk to him again. |

I was lucky enough to be in the Kalamazoo area in 1975 and taking a few lessons from Danny when I just started playing the Pedal Steel. I would bring Bobby Black and Paul Franklin recordings to him, and he would figure them out, then show the licks to me on the spot. The Franklin stuff seemed to take a little longer to figure out. Even today, when I am forced to play the Steel Guitar Rag, I still play it the way he showed it to me.
He is a great player.
Thank you Danny......... |
