I haven't had time to put them in the catalog yet, but I have received shipments of 3 new CDs:

David Wright On Bandstand - $13.00 -This is an exciting CD-R of bandstand recordings by Sierra demo artist David Wright. David plays Maurice Anderson's Bb6th Universal tuning, and is recognized as one of the best players in California. Some of the tracks feature vocalist Janice Allen, but the steel backup is predominant throughout.

Chuck Lettes - Cool Blue Steel - $15.00 - Chuck is probably best known for his arrangements in the PSGA newsletter and Steel Guitar World Magazine. He recorded this CD on various "frypan" lap steels. Chuck is a fan of Jerry Byrd, and the Byrd influence is felt throughout this very pretty CD. Many of the tunes are pop songs from the 50's and 60's. My favorite is "California Dreamin'".

The Very Best of Noel Boggs - $16.00 - HOF member Noel Boggs was best known for his "neck hopping" technique in the days before pedals. I saw this anthology in my distributor's catalog but haven't had time to listen to it yet. I'm sure it's a great CD though, as I've heard most of the tunes before on vinyl.

To order any of these, just follow the instructions on the catalog order page. Remember, catalog sales are what keeps the Forum going. Thanks in advance.

b0b, regarding the Boggs Shasta compilation, who did you get that through?
I had heard that Shasta was embroiled in a custody battle, for want of a better term.
(As in who gets to own the label)

That Chuck Lettes CD is great, it has been in rotation on my changer for a while. It is very comforting music, high on musical content, low on showoff bul*&$^%.

I haven't heard the David Wright one, but I know it's got to be a killer, given the player.

Talk about being slow!!

I just opened the Chuck Lettes CD that I bought from you over a month ago. I really love it! What I liked is that there was no "show off" element to it like high speed licks and tricks that sometimes distract from the song. (Not that any steel guitarist would 'punch up' their stuff with pedals and speed licks...)

Another thing that really comes through on this CD is the quality of the recording itself. According to the CD, John Macy did the recording and mix, and it is as clean and bright as any recording I have heard anywhere. I don't know much about recording, but obviously, John Macy does know an awful lot about good recording.

Another high quality work out of Colorado. And California Dreamin' is my favorite cut too. Very, VERY tasty CD!!

Hello David,
Thanks for the kind words about my CD, "Cool Blue Steel." It was a labor of love, and I'm really proud with the results. You're right; John Macy is an excellent engineer who really knows his stuff. He has great ears. He also had the idea of pairing up my steel guitars with just a stand-up bass asnd pecussion. His imput really helped create the mood of the CD. I'm glad that you are enjoying it.
